W. Meinel-Scholer in Klingenthal (manufacturer code "euh") using sheet metal stamping.The Leuchtpistole 42 was introduced into German service in 1943 and was used throughout the war. The Leuchtpistole 42 was a single-shot, lever-action signal pistol with a smooth barrel and successor to the Leuchtpistole 34. It consisted of stamped parts made of structural steel, was zinc-plated for corrosion protection, had Bakelite grips, and its rustic appearance did not impair its functionality. However, the Leuchtpistole 42 weighed almost 390g. The goal of the Leuchtpistole 42 was to reduce the use of light metals and dependence on machined parts as well as to lower production time and costs. Despite using structural steel and stamped parts, it was considered robust but heavier than its predecessor. The Leuchtpistole 42 was primarily used for signaling, illumination, target marking, and camouflage with a smoke grenade.
