The Heym SR 20 is a legendary classic bolt-action rifle that was the flagship of the traditional Heym hunting weapons manufactory in the field of cylindrical bolt rifles during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Combined with the precise all-round caliber .308 Winchester, it is still considered a symbol of traditional West German gunsmith craftsmanship. In the 1960s, the renowned manufacturer Heym (then based in Münnerstadt, Lower Franconia) entered into a cooperation with the world-famous company Mauser. During this time, Heym produced the systems for the Mauser 2000 and 3000 models. When this collaboration ended in the early 1970s, Heym used the gained knowledge to independently further develop the system. The result was the SR 20 (where "SR" stood for Sport Repeater and later Safety Repeater). It replaced the Mauser licensed builds and became a worldwide export success, especially in Europe and the USA.The SR 20 is based on the design principles of the proven Mauser System 98 but was optimized for more modern, efficient production and smoother handling. It is a classic cylindrical bolt system with two massive locking lugs at the bolt head (push-feed system). The bolt operation is considered legendary among hunters for being very smooth and quiet ("like on rails").Unlike the old Mauser 98 with wing safety, the SR 20 has a three-position side safety on the bolt shroud or trigger unit. In the middle position, the rifle can be safely unloaded while secured.A major plus of the SR 20 is the cold-hammered barrel made from original Krupp special barrel steel, which Heym produced in its own factory. These barrels are known for extreme durability and outstanding inherent accuracy.Excellent ballistics: Since the .308 Win. burns very efficiently from short barrels, it harmonizes perfectly with the hunting carbine variants (full stock) of the SR 20 without causing excessive muzzle flash or heavy recoil. The rifle was still manufactured at the old, traditional company location in Münnerstadt, Lower Franconia (Bavaria), before the factory moved to Thuringia in 1995. Firearms from this era are considered absolutely outstanding in quality. The rifle comes from an inherited collection that I am gradually dissolving after careful consideration. It is not easy to part with these pieces, but they should go into the hands of people who appreciate their quality and history. The rifle can of course be viewed and inspected on site by appointment. I place great value on transparency so you can personally verify the condition of the firearm. The price is negotiable. However, I ask that you remain realistic.Since I am dissolving the entire collection, more interesting and high-quality firearms will be offered in the coming weeks. Therefore, it is worth taking a look at my other listings.I look forward to your inquiry and am happy to answer any open questions.Note: The sale is exclusively to persons with valid acquisition authorization and in compliance with all applicable firearms laws. The description was made to the best of my knowledge and belief. Errors, typos, and prior sale reserved.
