Clearance of my collection: Bolt-action Mauser K98 (S/42) 1937 Cal. 8x57JS - bayonet also available

The Karabiner 98 kurz (K98k) with the coding S/42 from the year 1937 in caliber 8x57JS is a classic and historically significant example of a German ordnance weapon from the pre-war period. It documents the secret and later official phase of German rearmament before World War II.1.S/42: This is the covert manufacturer code for the Mauser-Werke in Oberndorf am Neckar. These codes were introduced in the early 1930s by the Heereswaffenamt to conceal the production locations and manufacturing capacities from foreign intelligence services and the controls of the Treaty of Versailles.From 1938, the "S/" was omitted (only "42") and changed to "byf" during the war.The manufacturing year 1937 on the system case is considered so-called "peace production" or "pre-war production." They are characterized by extremely high material and workmanship quality, deep black bluing, and finely polished surfaces, which were drastically simplified later in the war due to time and resource shortages.The K98k was officially introduced on June 14, 1935, as the standard infantry rifle of the Wehrmacht. It was based on the legendary Mauser System 98 from 1898 but was designed as a "short" carbine with a barrel length of 60 cm (compared to the 74 cm of the old Gewehr 98 from World War I). The cylindrical bolt with the two massive locking lugs at the front and the typical wing safety is still considered the safest and most robust bolt-action system in the world.The rifling is in flawless condition. Unfortunately, this is the only weapon that is not matching numbers. An associated bayonet is also available and can be purchased for an additional fee.The weapon comes from an inherited collection that I am gradually dissolving after careful consideration. It is not easy to part with these pieces, but they should go into the hands of people who appreciate their quality and history.The rifle can of course be viewed and inspected on site by appointment.
