Liquidation of my collection: Smith & Wesson 6“ Mod. 629-5 Inox, Dash Version Cal. .44 Rem Mag

The Smith & Wesson Model 629 in the monumental caliber .44 Magnum is one of the most famous and visually striking large-caliber revolvers in the world. As a stainless steel version ("Inox") of the legendary blued Model 29, it embodies the perfect evolution of an American firearm classic.The "Dirty Harry" hype The history of the Model 629 is inseparably linked to its steel brother, the Model 29. 1955/1956: Smith & Wesson releases the Model 29 on the huge N-frame (the largest classic S&W frame). The .44 Magnum cartridge was developed together with Elmer Keith and Remington. Thanks to the movie Dirty Harry (1971) starring Clint Eastwood, the revolver became an overnight worldwide cult object. Demand exploded so drastically that S&W could not keep up with production for years.The introduction of the stainless steel version (1979): In the 1970s, hunters, outdoor enthusiasts, and police agencies increasingly demanded firearms that were resistant to sweat, rain, and holster wear. Smith & Wesson responded and presented the Model 629 in 1979. The revolver immediately became a bestseller because the matte or satin-brushed stainless steel finish is extremely low-maintenance and, unlike the bluing of the old Model 29, cannot wear off.The Dash models: Since the .44 Magnum cartridge generates enormous gas pressure and heavy recoil, early models showed mechanical wear under extremely high shooting loads (e.g., the cylinder unscrewing itself). S&W responded with a model update, the so-called "Dash" versions.The revolver was built around 2001 and features the most advanced technical updates in the model's history. It comes standard with reinforced cylinder stops and the modified bolt, making it absolutely resistant to the heaviest hunting and sport loads in caliber .44 Magnum.The hammer and trigger in these series were manufactured using the modern metal injection molding (MIM) process.The firing pin in this generation is no longer mounted directly on the hammer but is spring-mounted in the frame (Frame-Mounted Firing Pin).No (S&W Internal Lock) on the 629-6 model from late 2001; the revolver has the newly introduced circular keyhole for transport safety on the left side directly above the cylinder release. This is missing on a 629-5, which many shooters prefer for aesthetic reasons.The firearm comes from an inherited collection that I am gradually dissolving after careful consideration. It is not easy to part with these pieces, but they should go into the hands of people who appreciate their quality and history.The revolver can, of course, be viewed and inspected on site by appointment.
