Clearance of my collection: Schmidt Rubin Model K31 bolt-action rifle caliber 7.5x55 with bayonet

The Karabiner Modell 1931 (officially designated as K31) is one of the best-known and most precise service rifles of the Swiss Army. The rifle with the serial number was manufactured in 1945 at the Eidgenössische Waffenfabrik Bern (W+F). Although the rifle is often referred to as Schmidt-Rubin, this is historically based on a further development.The eponymous designers Rudolf Schmidt and Eduard Rubin were already deceased or no longer involved in the development of the K31. The system is historically based on the straight-pull bolt-action rifle Modell 1889 designed by Rudolf Schmidt. The associated ammunition came from Eduard Rubin. However, the K31 itself was a new design by the Eidgenössische Waffenfabrik Bern (W+F) under the direction of Adolf Furrer.In the 1920s, the Swiss Army was looking for a replacement for the infantry rifle K11. The goal was a compact standard weapon for all branches of the troops.The weapon is characterized by groundbreaking design features that distinguished it from contemporary bolt-action rifles. The shooter pulls the bolt handle straight back and pushes it forward again. The time-consuming rotation of the bolt handle as in the Mauser system is eliminated. This ensures an extremely high rate of fire.Compared to its predecessor, the locking lugs were moved directly behind the chamber. This allowed for a significantly longer barrel with exactly the same overall length of the weapon, which massively increased precision.The legendary caliber 7.5x55 mm (GP11) The K31 fires the rifle cartridge 11 (GP11). It is characterized by a flat trajectory and outstanding inherent precision. Although the Swiss Army nominally specifies the caliber as 7.5 mm, the actual bullet diameter is 7.62 mm (.308). The combination of the tight manufacturing tolerances of the K31 and the quality of the GP11 ammunition makes the weapon extremely popular in sport shooting to this day.Since Switzerland maintained its neutrality, the K31 was never used in frontline combat in an emergency but ensured the country's permanent defense capability in border protection.The weapon comes from an inherited collection that I am gradually dissolving after careful consideration. It is not easy to part with these pieces, but they should go into the hands of people who appreciate their quality and history.The rifle can of course be viewed and inspected on site by appointment.
