The sniper rifle Model 1931 or the sniper rifle with the scope Model 1931 and the Smirnskiy mount (A. Smirnskiy was the designer of this mount) was the first sniper rifle officially adopted by the Red Army.It was only produced from 1932-1938 by the weapons factory in Tula (serial production, prototypes were made from 1929-1931). The bases and mounts were also exclusively made by the factory in Tula. In 1937, it ceased production of scopes and focused on other military optics. PE scopes from this factory were marked on the outer surface of the eyepiece lens block. The factory emblem (hammer and sickle with a star above and two pentagons below), the production year, and the serial number were located within the rectangular central block with rounded corners.From 1932-1936, these scopes were additionally marked with the model designation “В.П. обр.1931 г.” (scope Model 1931) and an abbreviation “У.В.П.” (1932–1934) or “А.У.” (1935–1936) above the rectangular central block with the factory markings. “У.В.П” stands for “Управление Военных приборов (АУ)”, Directorate for Military Devices of the Main Artillery Directorate, “А.У.” stands for “Артиллерийское Управление”, Main Artillery Directorate.The Main Artillery Directorate or Directorate for Military Devices of the Main Artillery Directorate was a military authority that commissioned the scopes at the production site. These abbreviations indicate that a particular scope was “made on order from ...”. At the end of 1936, the model designation and the abbreviation “А.У.” were removed, so the scopes were only marked with the main factory markings.The earliest scopes had serial numbers consisting only of numbers. From 1934 to 1937, scopes had letters before the serial number, with the letters A, Б, and B known. The exact meaning of the letters is currently unknown, presumably they indicate the version of the drawings used for production.Now to the actual rifle with scope.Mosin Nagant Model 91/30 from 1935 by Tula with acceptance СП  (#139602)Smirnskiy mount (#8y) and hexagonal base (#Л180) this is also stamped on the receiver recoil lug.PE scope Model А.У. from 1935 (8#B7639) with crystal-clear view, fully functional turrets and diopter adjustment (quite smooth, locking screw engages weakly)Barrel rough but lands and grooves clearly visible, good shooting performance.The upper handguard has a crack and should be professionally repaired or replaced. An older repair attempt is visible inside.Except for the bolt (was matched) and accordingly the scope with mount, it is matching numbers.  The scope with upper mount is nearly impossible to find matching the rifle by number. Back then, whatever was available was used. The base was "glued" to the chamber, not irreversible but shooting safe! Since the three screws on each side are known to loosen easily.Disassembly is not recommended; if pictures of the condition under the mount are desired, they can be sent upon serious purchase interest.All parts of the rifle visibly have Tula acceptance marks and are consistently marked with a star. Whether all components exactly belong to this Tula Mosin cannot be determined with certainty after over 90 years.
