Dissolution of my collection: Repeating rifle Persian Mauser G. 98/38 caliber 8x57JS

The Persian Rifle Model 98/38 (often referred to as the Persian Mauser M1938) in caliber 8x57IS is considered by historians, collectors, and sports shooters to be one of the highest quality and most precise Mauser rifles ever made. It combines the legendary German Mauser System 98 with the unparalleled Czechoslovak peacetime manufacturing quality of the interwar period.The "Brünn Agreement" In the 1920s and 1930s, the Persian ruler Reza Shah Pahlavi initiated a profound modernization of his country and the armed forces. Fearing the influence of the great powers Britain and Russia, he sought a neutral but technically advanced arms supplier.The choice fell on the Czechoslovak arms factory Zbrojovka Brno (Brünn Arms Factory). At that time, Brünn manufactured rifles on original Mauser machines with a quality of workmanship that even surpassed late German military productions.As shorter, more maneuverable weapons proved superior in modern warfare, Persia ordered a modernized short rifle variant starting in 1938. This is the Model 98/38. Production only lasted a very short time, as the German Reich occupied the Czech Republic in March 1939. The remaining machines in Brünn were then converted for the production of German Wehrmacht carbines.The Persian G. 98/38 differs visually and mechanically from standard Mausers through exclusive details. The historical coat of arms of the Persian Empire - a lion with an uplifted saber before a rising sun - is magnificently embossed on the cartridge head. There are no Latin letters or Arabic numerals on the weapon. On the left side of the receiver, it reads in Persian script (Farsi): "Long Rifle Model 1317 Brünn Arms Factory" (where 1317 corresponds to the Islamic solar calendar, marking the western year 1938). Farsi serial numbers: The serial numbers and sight adjustments on the sliding ramp are also stamped in Persian numerals.The weapons were delivered with elegant, perfectly fitted walnut stocks and an extremely deep, glossy mirror bluing.The weapon must not be fired with the ancient cartridge 8x57I (without S, thinner diameter 8.09 mm)!Similar to the Irish Enfields, many Persian Mauser rifles also spent decades unused in climate-controlled arsenals of Iran before being exported to Europe and the USA starting in the 1970s and 1980s.Due to the tight manufacturing tolerances in Brünn, they are considered absolute "Tack Drivers" (hole-in-hole shooters) among ordinance rifle shooters at 100 meters.This rifle comes from an inherited collection that I am gradually dissolving after careful consideration. It is not easy to part with these pieces, but they should end up in the hands of individuals who appreciate their quality and history.The rifle can, of course, be inspected and evaluated on-site by appointment.
