The company was founded in 1852 by business partners Horace Smith and Daniel Baird Wesson under the name Smith & Wesson, Norwich, Connecticut. After the partnership began in 1852, Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson developed and patented a magazine pistol. The timing of the development of cartridge revolvers proved to be favorable, as the Civil War, which broke out five years later, created a strong demand for "Smith & Wesson" products. After the end of the Civil War, Smith & Wesson established itself in the civilian market with its Model No 3. In 1964, the Wesson family sold the company to the conglomerate Bangor Punta. In 1984, this conglomerate, and thus also Smith & Wesson, was acquired by the Lear Siegler Corporation. Subsequently, Smith & Wesson refocused on its core business, and activities in other sectors were abandoned. The partners Smith & Wesson have primarily manufactured handguns (revolvers, pistols) and ammunition since the 1850s. Later, a wide range of equipment for police and other security forces was added. Smith & Wesson products are considered high quality in terms of quality, safety, accuracy, and durability. By the end of the 19th century, Smith & Wesson began developing revolvers with a one-piece enclosed frame and a fixed barrel. One of the reasons was the introduction of ammunition with smokeless powder and higher ballistic performance. The result was the revolver with a side-swinging cylinder, which is still produced today, as developed by Colt in 1884. To reload, the cylinder was swung out. The Smith & Wesson Model 30 is a small-frame, six-shot double-action revolver in .32 Long caliber. It is based on the Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector Third Model and was factory blued or nickel-plated. It is an I-frame with a rounded grip, produced from 1948 to 1960, and was later replaced by the J-frame Model 30-1, which was manufactured until 1976. 5-screw I-frameFrom 1948 to 1957, this model was known as the "Model .32 Hand Ejector" and was based on the 5-screw I-frame. 4-screw I-frameIn 1958, the frame was revised and equipped with four screws and a coil spring instead of a flat or leaf spring. This version was referred to as the "Improved I-Frame." 3-screw J-frameThree years later, in 1961, production of the "I-Frame" was discontinued and replaced by the slightly longer 3-screw "J-Frame."Produced in the years 1903–1976Barrel lengths 2 inches (51 mm) 3 inches (76 mm) 4 inches (100 mm) 6 inches (150 mm) Manufacturer: Smith & Wesson, 1852 Proffitt Springs Road, Maryville, TN 37801Importer: Waimex Jagd-Und Sportwaffen GmbH, Benno-Strauss Str. 41, 90763 Fürth ([email protected])Model: 30-1 with suffix "H"Caliber: .38 S&W long/ .38 S&WBarrel length: 4"Hammer and trigger case-hardenedFixed sight with ramp front sightCylinder capacity: 6 cartridgesDA/SA triggerFinish: blued
