The series has been continuously manufactured since 1962 and is based on a basic design, including a nearly identical grip. Initially, the weapons were produced at FN in Herstal, later the production was relocated to Herstal's subsidiary[1] Browning Arms Company in the U.S.A. All the weapons have a single-row magazine for 10 cartridges, which can be fired in rapid succession. In some models, weights can be attached to the barrel to reduce the upward movement of the barrel when firing. The trigger systems can be very well modified or are, as in the case of the Browning Medalist, finely adjustable from the factory. With a lever mounted on the side, the trigger can be switched to a dry fire training mode using the thumb of the right hand. This function is considered a groundbreaking safety system. The slide operates very reliably even with differently loaded ammunition, and weapons with this system have good inherent accuracy due to the rigid barrel.
