The arms dealer WH e.K. offers:Sturm Ruger Security-Six "Longback", .357 Magnum, 4" barrel The Ruger Security-Six and its variants, the Service-Six and Speed-Six, are a product line of double-action revolvers that were introduced in 1972 and manufactured by Sturm, Ruger & Co. until 1988. These revolvers were marketed for law enforcement, military, and civilian self-defense markets. The introduction of the Security-Six and its variants marked Sturm Ruger's first attempt to sell a custom double-action revolver that deviated from the company's earlier designs, which were outdated Colt Peacemaker-style single-action revolvers. Ruger used investment casting for most parts to reduce production costs. Like all Ruger firearms, the Security-Six revolvers were designed to be robust with large, heavy parts for durability and for the investment casting process. The Ruger Security Six was originally introduced in 1972 as a direct competitor to S&W's Model 19. It is slightly larger than a K-Frame but typically fits in K-Frame holsters. Mechanically, the Six series uses a coil spring and a modular design without a side plate. The lockup functions just like a S&W, with the cylinder locking at the rear of the frame and at the end of the ejector. The ejector is a screw-in design like that of a Smith, making the entire gun a sort of transition to the current Ruger DA pistols (except the Redhawk).Firearms of the early 150 series pistols, also known as the "Longback" version. Ruger was known for one-handed firearms, and they designed their first double-action revolvers with a certain Western flair to the grip. Ruger uses three-digit serial number prefixes, and a change in the prefix often indicates significant changes. A few years after the introduction, Ruger consulted the well-known lawman and firearms expert Charles A. "Skeeter" Skelton to make the Security Six more popular. They made some changes, the most important being the design of the grip, which is now more similar to an S&W revolver. The new version had a prefix of 151 and higher.
