The weapon was manufactured in the traditional Izhevsk Arsenal, which is clearly recognizable by the characteristic triangle-with-arrow acceptance stamp on the receiver.The M38 is the pure carbine version of the Mosin-Nagant system without a permanently attached folding bayonet and was mainly used for troops that required a more compact weapon (e.g., artillery, pioneers, supply units).
