The New Model Belt Revolver was manufactured between 1865 and 1873 in only about 2500/3000 copies, with single and double-action models having their own serial number ranges. Both the single action and the double action versions were produced in the same serial number range. The New Model Belt Revolver was introduced as a percussion weapon in 1863. Due to slight differences in cylinder design, the SA and DA cylinders are not interchangeable and cannot be modified to fit each other. Joseph Rider soon began to patent improvements to firearms and invented the double-action percussion revolver in 1858. For this, he received twelve pairs of revolvers and 400 acres of land in Ohio from Remington. This formed the basis for Rider's future real estate dealings. He worked with Remington for about 25 years. His improvements led to the Remington Rolling Block Rifle, which was described as "the best single-shot rifle of all time and the most famous of all Remington firearms."
