The arms dealer WH e.K. offers:C.G. Haenel, Model I, 6.35 mm Browning, absolute rarity, pocket pistol     In 1920, the company C.G. Haenel launched a new pocket pistol, the so-called "Schmeisserpistole", in the common caliber of 6.35 mm Browning. By this time, Haenel could already look back on a long tradition, as weapons had been produced in Suhl under the company founder Carl Gottlieb Haenel since 1840. In addition to hunting weapons for the civilian market, the military was a major customer. With the end of World War I, the demand for military weapons dropped sharply, and Haenel had to turn to the civilian market. The first contact between Haenel and the designers Hans and Hugo Schmeisser also occurred shortly after the war. Based on a patent by Hans Schmeisser from 1919, the Schmeisserpistole was ultimately developed. To account for the smaller pocket pistols of the competition - particularly the Walther Model 9 - a new, smaller, and simplified pistol was introduced in 1926 as "Model II". The Schmeisserpistole was designated "Model I". The production of Model I continued for a time alongside Model II, with the last advertisements found in 1926. After that, only Model II was advertised. This article is based on a data collection of over 600 Schmeisser pistols, Model I. The highest known serial number is 159684. There is a gap between the numbers 102882 and 150044, where no pistols are known. Based on export weapons with foreign proofs and year indications (Austria, Czechoslovakia), it can be determined that with the introduction of Model II in 1926, the numbering of Model I had reached around 80000. Above the 90000 range, proofs from 1928 and 1929 are known.Models I and II were therefore manufactured in parallel for a significant time, with the number block starting from 100000 reserved for Model II. However, there are also Model II pistols with low serial numbers (e.g., 108). Whether Haenel intended to produce Model II in its own serial number range starting from zero or whether the manufacturer decided to use the range starting from 100000 at the beginning or only later cannot be answered with certainty here.### From collection,  absolute rarity###Manufacturer:  C.G.
