The arms dealer WH e.K. offers:UNIQUE Model 17 "War Model", 7.65mm BrowningFrench weapon brand. It was the trademark of the Manufacture d’armes des Pyrénées françaises founded in 1923 in Béhobie in the form of Uria & Arenas Frères by José Uria. The factory was located in Hendaye and became MAPF. It is noteworthy that one of the special features of the UNIQUE company was the production of barrels made of stainless steel, whose behavior and reaction when fired (triggering the explosion, passage of the projectile) were recognized as important success factors. As financial difficulties worsened in 1998, the company was on the brink of collapse. MAPF took over the name of its trademark and became "UNIQUE". Weapons were sold to sports shooters, hunters, but also to the French army, municipal police, national police, customs, the national forestry office, and Wehrmacht officers. The UNIQUE company was founded in Hendaye by a Spanish gunsmith (later naturalized). The latter left the Spanish Basque Country during the crisis of the 1920s, at the end of World War I. The UNIQUE company began manufacturing pistols for defense purposes in calibers 6.35 (25acp) or 7.65 short (32acp), which were the most popular at the time. They were characterized by Ruby-type pistols, which were of very high execution and manufacturing quality (the highest quality "Ruby" pistol). The French army decided at the beginning of the Second World War to purchase a batch of 18,000 Model 17 in short caliber 7.65 to further equip its troops. After the armistice, Hendaye fell under German occupation. The Germans recognized the qualities of the Unique pistols and asked the company to develop a variant of the Model 17 for them, particularly with an exposed hammer. This will be the so-called "War Model" for the Wehrmacht. Both the Model 17 and the so-called War Model operate with a non-blocked locking head (Browning system). Production of the Model 17 for the Germans continued under their occupation, but unfortunately, the French never marked them with an acceptance mark WaA. The Unique 17 was the German development of the Unique 16. In this variant, the magazine was expanded to 9 rounds. Based on the Model 17, the UNIQUE company would produce the Model Rr51 after the war, which equipped the national police forces until 2009.
