The Mauser C96 is one of the earliest self-loading pistols, produced by Mauser starting in 1896. Although it was never a service weapon for German armed forces, the "Construction 96" by Mauser was manufactured in a variety of variants and calibers and exported worldwide. The C96 was licensed and unlicensed produced by various other firearms manufacturers, and was partially further developed or improved. The weapon is built on two parts, the grip with trigger system and magazine, and the sliding bolt housing with barrel attached to it. The C96 is a recoil-operated loader with a straight-recoiling barrel, pivoting locking mechanism, and external hammer. The magazine box is located in front of the trigger guard and is loaded from above with loading strips. The weapon's casing could be used as a shoulder stock in all models. The C96 was produced with different barrel lengths, various magazine capacities, and in different calibers.
