Schmidt-Rubin is the designation for a rifle system of the Swiss Army.

The infantry rifle 1889 of the Swiss designer Rudolf Schmidt replaced the predecessor system Vetterli starting in 1889. The associated cartridge 7.5 mm GP 90 and the further developed 7.5 × 55 mm Swiss (GP 11) were developed by Eduard Rubin. This is how the designation Schmidt-Rubin came about.

The most prominent feature of this type of rifle is the straight-pull bolt, which allows for reloading with a strong but quick pull-push motion, similar to the Mannlicher system.
