Dusek founded a gunsmith workshop in Czechia/Opotschno (Opočno) around 1908. From the mid-1930s, Duschek sold pistols from his own production under the brand name DUO, which was derived from the first two letters of his surname and the first letter of the place name (Dušek Opočno). In the early days, Duschek also marketed the DUO under the brand names Ydeal and Singer, according to the catalog. After the nationalization of the company, the Duo was renamed Pistol Z. In the 1960s and 1970s, a special version of the Pistol Z was issued to high-ranking officers of the NVA and foreign dignitaries as a personal defense weapon. Early pistols under the trade name Singer feature a perforated grip frame, with ribs remaining on both sides in the lower area to provide stiffness to the grip. The DUO produced from 1940, on the other hand, has a completely open grip frame on the left side under the grip panels. On the right, the grip frame is closed and has only two holes with a diameter of about 10 mm each. The DUO is a classic pocket pistol in the style of an FN 1906. Just like the FN 1906, the barrel is rifled in the front area for better grip and is locked with three lugs in the grip frame. By turning it 90°, the barrel can be unlocked. The pistol has a striker-fired mechanism, and the trigger bar runs internally on both sides in the grip frame. The DUO has a lever safety and a magazine safety.
