The arms dealer WH e.K. offers:Robar & de Kerckhove, BREVETTE MELIOR M1909, 6.35 BROWNINGIn 1910, likely as his health began to deteriorate, Jean Louis Joseph Robar handed over the management of the company to his son, Louis Servais Hubert Robar. In 1912, at the age of 54, Jean Louis Joseph Robar passed away, and his son Louis Servais Hubert Robar became a co-owner of the company along with Louis de Kerckhove. Thus, the company became known as Robar Fils & L. De Kerckhove and operated under this name from 1910 to 1926. The company name L. Robar Fils & L. de Kerckhove appears in a trademark certificate dated January 14, 1914, and represents the trade name “Melior” above the initials “RK.” “Melior” is Latin for “better” and could also be translated as “superior.” Melior pistols were manufactured in 1908; however, these pistols were only allowed to be marketed in Belgium until the granting of foreign patents by Henri Rosier. Therefore, the first batch had no patent number or export marking. These pistols had “M ELIOR” engraved on the left side of the recoil spring housing and a “R&K” monogram (Robar & de Kerckhove) on the grip panels. As mentioned, Janssen Fils et Cie was the main sales representative for Robar & de Kerckhove and also distributed pistols wholesale to other companies outside Belgium. The company Adolf Frank Hamburg offered the pistols in both calibers in its ALFA catalog of 1911. The weapon corresponds to the description in the mentioned patent. The bolt or locking block moves back and forth in the frame and has an upper extension into which the guide rod of the recoil spring is screwed. The extension features 15 fine, triangularly cut vertical notches on a raised plate at the back to facilitate the retraction of the locking block for loading a cartridge. The firing pin and its spring are held in the locking block by a pinned plug at the rear.
