Civilian pocket revolvers, such as the Wells Fargo or the 1849 Pocket, were .31 caliber pistols that easily fit into a coat pocket. Just as Colt was able to fit a .44 cylinder to a .36 frame with silver spring steel, he allowed the .31 caliber 1849 pocket revolver to be upgraded to a .36 caliber. The Pocket Navy of 1862 retains the octagonal barrel and the swinging loading lever of the Navy from 1851, while the Police model of 1862 is a miniature of the Army revolver from 1860, featuring a fluted cylinder, streamlined round barrel, and creeping loading lever.
