P320, the first SIG Sauer to feature a light double-action-only trigger with a striker-fired mechanism, designed not only based on the company’s previous experience with many successful pistols but also on direct feedback from industry operators, military personnel, and police officers in the USA. Although inspired by the latest SIG Sauer models, notably the P250 range, the semi-automatic P320 pistol is unique in its class and within the Swiss-German group’s lineup, not only because of its striker-fired operation. According to US laws and international regulations, the “firearm” is identified as the functional part bearing the serial number. The P320’s design places the serial number so that both the frame and the barrel/slide-bolt group can be swapped to convert the firearm from the “Full-Size” version (with a 119mm barrel and 230mm overall length) to the “Carry” variant (99mm barrel, 183mm overall length), keeping only the trigger package and the double-stack steel magazine, which can hold from 13 to 15 rounds (cal. 40, 9×21) depending on whether it’s the full-length model or the compact variant.
The firearm is equipped with an effective automatic safety system against accidental striker release, as well as a disconnector system that prevents firing when the firearm is not in battery.
The SIG Sauer P320 has no manual safeties; however, it features an ambidextrous magazine release button and a Hold Open lever.
Finally, the unique takedown system requires the firearm to be magazine-free and the slide-bolt open before the disassembly lever can be removed to slide the bolt off its rails: unlike other models, pulling the trigger is not necessary to disassemble the firearm.
