LYMAN 7777790 / 7777791
Clean primer pockets without changing their geometry
The manual LYMAN Primer Pocket Cleaners remove combustion residue from Large or Small primer pockets. They clean the pocket floor but do not cut a crimp or uniform depth or diameter.

Choose Large or Small

Black-Raptor assessment
Choose the version based on the actual primer size, not simply on whether it's for a rifle or pistol. This simple hand tool is especially suited to small and medium batches, giving you a direct feel for dirt and resistance.
Does this product fit your workflow?

A good fit

empty, deprimed cases with Small or Large primer pockets
manual cleaning before visual inspection and installing a new primer
users who deliberately want to avoid removing material

Not the best fit

removing military crimps
uniforming depth or diameter
of the primer pocket
loaded cases or cases with live primers

Features with practical benefits

Two clearly defined sizes
7777790 is designed for Large Rifle/Pistol, 7777791 for Small Rifle/Pistol.

Cleaning, not cutting
The tool removes residue and is not intended to deliberately alter the pocket’s geometry.

Direct manual control
Manual use makes unusual resistance immediately noticeable and is easy to control for manageable batches.

Limitations and avoiding the wrong purchase
A cleaner is not a uniformer or a reamer. It won’t correct a damaged or out-of-spec primer pocket. The Rifle/Pistol designation alone isn’t enough: some cartridges use a different primer size. Working too aggressively offers no benefit.
Technical specifications—and what they mean

Large
LYMAN 7777790 · SKU 749001141 · GTIN 011516777904.
Small
LYMAN 7777791 · SKU 749001142 · GTIN 011516777911.
Function
Manual removal of residue from the primer pocket.
Distinction
Not a crimp remover, reamer, or depth uniformer.
Practical result
A clean pocket floor makes visual inspection easier; correct primer seating also depends on dimensions and seating technique.

What’s included
One LYMAN Primer Pocket Cleaner in your choice of Large or Small. Cases, primers, holders, reamers, uniformers, and protective products are not included.
Use and safety
Work only on completely empty, deprimed cases. Choose the correct size, position the tool straight, and turn without forcing it. Remove residue afterward and check the primer pocket for damage. Store primers separately and in accordance with applicable regulations.
Frequently asked questions
Does Large fit all rifle cartridges? No. The specific primer size of the case is what matters, not the general Rifle or Pistol classification. Does the tool remove a military crimp? No. You’ll need a suitable reamer or swager for that. Does it uniform the primer pocket? No. It cleans residue and isn’t designed for controlled material removal. Can I clean cases with primers in them? No. Work only on empty, already deprimed cases.
BLACK RAPTOR VERDICT
A clearly defined hand tool for clean primer pockets. Choosing the right size matters more than the caliber name—and cleaning shouldn’t be confused with reshaping.
