For precisely prepared .17 and .20 cases: The piloted SINCLAIR flash hole deburring tool 051720 removes the burr inside the flash hole created during punching. The matching neck pilot guides the tool over the case mouth; this way, the cutting depth is oriented to the case length and can be kept more consistent within a cleanly prepared batch of cases.
Fits well – and fits less well
Fits well for reloaders who want to check and carefully rework new or still untreated cases in .17 (.172) or .20 (.204) once for internal flash hole burrs.
Fits less well for larger calibers, for cases without a matching SINCLAIR neck pilot, or if a complete set including pilots is sought.
The tool does not replace a flash hole cleaner or uniformer nor a reamer for military crimped flash holes.
Compatibility and avoiding wrong purchases
The 051720 accepts only the separately available stainless steel neck pilots for .17 and .20. Larger SINCLAIR pilots do not fit by design. Therefore, check case caliber and required pilot clearly before purchase. The pilot guidance also requires evenly trimmed or controlled case lengths because the tool references at the case mouth.
What the processing practically brings
A cleanly removed internal web can reduce differences in the flame path of the primer. This is a measure for process consistency, not a guarantee for smaller group sizes: bullet, charge, batch of cases, primer, and firearm/barrel combination remain at least equally decisive. Flash holes already made cleanly do not require additional material removal.
Safe use
Only work on fully discharged and fired cases; primers, powder, and ammunition remain outside the working area.
Mount the matching .17 or .20 neck pilot and check its fit on the case neck.
Guide the tool straight through the case neck and remove only the existing internal web with a few controlled turns.
Stop if unusual resistance occurs. Do not cant or continue milling on suspicion.
Then clean the case from chips and check the flash hole and case neck.
Scope of delivery
Included is a SINCLAIR 051720 flash hole deburring tool with handle. Neck pilots are not included; consumables, cases, and other case processing tools are also not included.
Black-Raptor classification
A sensible special solution for careful reloaders with .17 or .20 cases who reproducibly document their case preparation. Those who only reload occasionally or do not yet own suitable pilots usually do better economically with a fully equipped case processing set.
