REDDING · Model 2400 · Case Preparation
Set case length in 0.001″ increments and still measure the process
The manual micrometer case trimmer combines a universal collet, rigid cast iron frame, and TiN-coated cutter for controlled small to medium batches.
Stable workbench and matching pilots are a must
Black-Raptor Purchase Check: Strong for users who manually process different case families and document settings. For high throughput, a motorized case prep system is usually the better choice.
Fits well or rather not?
Fits well
deliberate manual precision work
several common case head diameters
first case and samples are measured
Fits rather not
maximum throughput more important than control
no stable workbench available
optional smaller cutter and matching pilots missing for .17/.20
Features with practical impact
Micrometer scale 0.001″ Makes documented corrections easier; caliper remains necessary for actual case length.
Universal collet Common case heads are clamped without caliber-specific shellholder; choose the smallest suitable step.
TiN cutter The cutter is fixed while the case rotates. Cleanliness and consistent feed affect the cut quality.
Extended cast iron frame Provides space for long cases; its stiffness only works with solid mounting.
Limits, disadvantages and avoiding bad purchases
With 1″ extension, the micrometer scale works for cases from 0.5 to 3.0″. Processing up to 3.25″ is possible, but above 3.0″ the setting is outside the effective scale. Optional smaller cutter and matching pilots are needed for .17/.20. Never close the collet without a case.
Technical data – with practical consequences
Micrometer 0.001″ per increment
ich, 1.5″ adjustment range – reference, no cutter set.
Caliber range .17 to .50 – smallest calibers only with additional parts.
Case length 0.5–3.0″ scaled, up to 3.25″ technically – long cases must be checked separately.
Mounting two base holes – fasten torsion-resistant.
Scope of delivery
REDDING Model 2400 Match Precision Case Trimming Lathe, 1″ cutter shaft extension, six pilots, two case neck cleaning brushes as well as cleaner for large and small flash holes. For caliber-critical orders, confirm the exact pilot configuration.
Use and care
Calibrate case first and expand neck correctly.
Set first case deliberately a bit long, trim slightly and measure.
Keep clamping pressure and hand position constant.
Remove chips regularly; check length within the batch.
Thinly lubricate spindle and micrometer thread according to manufacturer’s instructions.
FAQ
Is the Model 2400 ready to use for .17/.20 immediately? No. Optional smaller cutter and matching pilots are required. Does the micrometer scale replace the caliper? No. It serves as an adjustment reference; the case must be measured. Can a 3.25″ case be processed? Yes, but above 3.0″ the setting is outside the effective micrometer scale. Why must the collet not be closed empty? It can be permanently overstretched without an inserted case. Is fixed mounting necessary? Yes. A stiff mounting improves operation and repeatability. Can the trimmer be motorized? With optional 1/4″ hex adapter; measurement and safe feed remain mandatory.
Black-Raptor classification: A strong manual solution for documented precision work. The micrometer scale supports the process, it does not replace it.
