BROWNELLS · Brass / Steel · Single or set
Alignment and drift punches: check size, material, and pin type first
Four diameters, two materials, and several set options for controlled pin work. The key buying check is not the firearm platform, but the actual pin diameter, pin geometry, and a suitable work surface.
Choose the right option

Black-Raptor assessment

The slightly tapered tip helps align multiple holes before inserting or driving out a pin. The large plastic handle improves control and is designed to resist rolling.
For workshops handling different assemblies, the combo set is the most versatile option. If you only work with one known pin size, a single tool is a more targeted choice. The most common buying mistake is choosing a diameter that is only approximately right or the wrong punch geometry.

A good fit if … … you’ve identified the pin size and type with confidence, want to align components carefully, and can support them securely.
… you want to choose deliberately between brass, steel, the four-piece set, or the complete set.

Probably not a good fit if … … you’re only estimating the diameter or want to free a stuck pin by hitting it harder.
… what you actually need is a roll-pin, starter, or other specialty punch
need.

Variant selection without buying the wrong one

2.34 mm · .092″ Smallest size offered. Choose only if it matches the pin or hole.

3.05 mm · .120″ Medium-small size. Don’t try to distinguish it from .092″ by eye.

3.84 mm · .151″ Larger standard variant in the family; check the measurement beforehand.

6.25 mm · .246″ Largest individual size offered. For significantly larger pins and holes.

Brass More forgiving on delicate contact surfaces, but more likely to deform under heavy loads.

Steel More dimensionally stable, but requires proper alignment and a suitable support.

Understanding sets and what’s included

Individual punch One punch in the selected material and diameter.

Four-piece set One punch in each of the four sizes, in either brass or steel.

Bench block Beige Delrin block for up to eight punches. Punches are not included with this option.

Combo set Four brass punches, four steel punches, and the bench block.

Limitations, drawbacks, and avoiding the wrong purchase

Platform specifications don’t guarantee a fit: AR-15, 1911, Remington 870, and Ruger revolvers are typical examples, but not every pin on these platforms uses the same size or geometry.
Treat roll pins separately: If a roll pin requires a hollow or contoured tip, a punch designed for roll pins is the better choice.
More force isn’t the answer: If the punch binds, meets unusual resistance, or starts to deform, stop and check the size, pin type, and removal direction again.

Technical specifications in practice

Materials 360 brass or unhardened steel drill rod, depending on the selected option.

Handle Large plastic handle with an anti-roll shape for better control on the workbench.

Shaft length About 8.2 cm – relevant for reach and guidance at the component.

Overall length About 12.1 cm – compact enough for the workbench, with an easy-to-grip handle.

Tapered section About 19 mm from the tip for controlled alignment before driving the pin.

Bench block About 16 × 7.6 × 1.9 cm, Delrin, eight holes.

Safe use

Work only on completely unloaded firearms, keep ammunition away from the work area, and wear safety glasses. Support the component securely, position the punch vertically, and start with controlled force.
Don’t continue using bent, mushroomed, or otherwise damaged punches. Keep your hands out of the striking area.

FAQ
Which size do I need? Measure the actual pin and check the assembly specifications. The punch should guide the pin, but must not bind in the hole.
What’s the difference between brass and steel? Brass is more forgiving; steel is more dimensionally stable. Both materials require the right diameter and a stable support.
Are the punches automatically suitable for roll pins? No. Roll pins may require a special hollow or contoured tip.
Does the bench block include punches? No. The bench block option includes only the Delrin block.
What’s included in the largest set? Four brass punches, four steel punches, and a bench block for all eight tools.

Black Raptor · control, not force
Choosing the right punch starts with the measurements. Determine the diameter and pin type accurately, then choose the material and set contents. That turns a simple hand tool into a controlled solution instead of an added risk to the component and its finish.
