Case Preparation · Primer Pocket · Redding
REDDING Primer Pocket Uniformer 09100/09105 – consistent primer pocket depth instead of varying seating depth The Primer Pocket Uniformer machines the bottom of the primer pocket with a precision-ground carbide cutter. The key is the right size: 09100 for Large Rifle, 09105 for Small Rifle and Small Pistol.
Black-Raptor classification: The tool is intended for controlled uniformity. It does not replace crimp removal or flash hole uniforming and cannot repair an already damaged or too deep primer pocket.
Fits well / fits less well
Fits well if … you want to reproducibly prepare batches of cases and achieve a more consistent primer seating depth, by hand or with a 1/4-inch hex drive.
Fits less well if … you only want to remove soot, eliminate military crimps, or correct a stretched or damaged primer pocket.
Variant choice without a bad purchase
09100 / Large Rifle: Shopify SKU 749004508. For large rifle primer pockets.
09105 / Small Rifle & Small Pistol: Shopify SKU 749004509. For small rifle and small pistol primer pockets.
The caliber designation alone is not enough. The actual primer size used in the specific case is decisive.
What the design practically achieves
Carbide cutter with five flutes The cutter smooths out irregularities at the primer pocket bottom in a controlled and low-wear manner. The goal is a uniform geometry, not maximum material removal.
Fes
t ground shoulder The shoulder constructively limits the machining depth. This makes the tool easier to reproduce than a freely guided cutter without a stop.
Handle plus 1/4-inch drive You can work sensitively by hand or use a suitable cordless screwdriver with low speed for larger batches.
One operation with a clear boundary The uniformer machines the depth and bottom of the primer pocket. Primer hole, crimp, and general case condition remain separate inspection points.
Limits, disadvantages, and typical bad purchases
Wrong size: Large and Small are not interchangeable.
Confused uniformer with crimp remover: Military crimps require a dedicated reamer or swager tool.
Too much material removal: Even with a stop, no forceful "re-cutting" is done. Damaged or noticeably loose primer pockets must be discarded.
Confused cleaning with machining: For pure soot removal, a simple primer pocket cleaner is usually more appropriate.
Safe use
Only machine empty, fully fired cases. Hold the case securely, apply the cutter straight, and work with light, controlled pressure. Use low speed for motorized use and do not override the stop shoulder with extra force. Then completely remove chips and visually inspect the primer pocket and primer hole.
Technical data with practical interpretation
Models Redding 09100 Large Rifle and 09105 Small Rifle/Small Pistol – selection depends on the primer size.
Cutting tool Precision-ground carbide cutter with five edges – designed for clean, repeatable cuts.
Depth stop Fixed ground shoulder to manufacturer’s dimension – important for reproducible machining without freely adjustable depth stop.
Drive Manual via accessory handle or via 1/4-inch hex adapter – depending on batch size and desired work rhythm.
Scope of delivery
Delivered is a chosen size of the REDDING Primer Pocket Uniformer with matching accessory handle and adapter for 1/4-inch hex. Large and Small are not delivered together as a set.
FAQ
Which variant do I need? 09100 for Large Rifle; 09105 for Small Rifle and Small Pistol. The decisive factor is the primer size of the case. Does the uniformer remove a military crimp? No. A special reamer or swager is intended for that. Can I work with a cordless screwdriver? Yes, via the 1/4-inch adapter. Low speed and light feed are advisable. Does the tool repair too deep or stretched primer pockets? No. Such cases are not an application for the uniformer and must be separately assessed or discarded.
Black Raptor buying guide
Choose the right size – and only machine as much material as necessary. The REDDING Uniformer is a precise specialist for reproducible primer pocket geometry. Those who clearly separate crimp removal, cleaning, and uniforming avoid typical bad purchases and get a clearly defined work step.
