FORSTER · HOT100 · Case Neck Turning
Uniformly control wall thickness – with measurement instead of material removal by feel
The handheld HOT100 aligns the case on a caliber-specific pilot and removes material finely dosed on the outside of the case neck. This helps with uneven neck wall thicknesses but requires a separately chosen pilot and consistent measurement control.
Select pilot separately
Black-Raptor classification
A specialized tool for experienced reloaders who want to specifically reduce measured runout. The potential benefit lies in a more uniform bullet release; a smaller shot group is not automatically guaranteed.
Fits your setup?
Fits well For precision reloaders with calibrated, expanded cases, a suitable caliper micrometer, and a matching HOT100 pilot. The included standard holder covers case base diameters up to 0.592 inch.
Fits less well If you work without wall thickness measurement, expect a case trimmer, or want to use pilots from the trimmer-mounted Forster OT1010. These pilot systems are not interchangeable.
Features that matter in everyday use
Carbide cutter Durable cutting edge for controlled external material removal; the cutter is replaceable.
Micrometer adjustment
g 0.001-inch graduation, with finely adjustable intermediate values up to about 0.0005 inch.
Handheld mounting The case is rotated in the standard holder; the tool body can be securely fixed if needed.
Cut near the shoulder The geometry allows a clean finish at the shoulder base without cutting into the shoulder.
Limits and avoiding bad purchases
The pilot is absolutely necessary and not included. It must fit the actual internal diameter of the fully prepared case, not just the caliber name. Excessive material removal or cutting into the shoulder can weaken the case. The optional HOT100-102 is required for case base diameters from 0.593 to 0.812 inch.
Technical data with practical notes
Type Handheld external case neck turner Practical note: suitable for controlled single and small series work.
Pilot range .172 to .513 bullet diameter, pilot-dependent Practical note: measure case and check pilot fit before ordering.
Standard holder up to 0.592 inch case base diameter Practical note: larger bases require the separate HOT100-102.
Adjustment 0.001-inch scale Practical note: adjust in small steps and measure each test cut.
Scope of delivery
1 × Forster HOT100 tool body
1 × mounted carbide cutter
1 × micrometer adjustment mechanism
1 × standard case holder HOT100-101
Not included: caliber-specific pilot, large case holder, measuring tool, die, and cases.
Use, care and safety
Only process empty, unfired cases. Clean neck inside and outside, uniformly size and expand the case. Check pilot for light sliding fit, initially adjust minimally and measure all around. Turn slowly, never press on and never cut into the shoulder. Do not use damaged cutters or holders.
Frequently asked questions
Is a pilot included? No. A suitable HOT100 pilot must be chosen separately. Is the caliber designation enough for selection? No. The decisive factor is the light sliding fit in the fully sized and expanded case. Do OT1010 pilots fit? No. HOT100 and OT1010 pilots are not interchangeable. How fine is the adjustment? The scale is divided into 0.001 inch; intermediate settings up to about 0.0005 inch are possible. Is the standard holder suitable for .50 BMG? No. The optional HOT100-102 is required for large matching cases. Does the cutter need sharpening? According to the manufacturer, no; it is replaceable if damaged or worn.
Clear purchase decision: When pilot, case size, and measuring concept are fixed, the HOT100 is a precisely adjustable tool. Without these prerequisites, a matched complete setup is the better choice.
