The MEC 600 Slugger combines the steps for 12-gauge slug cartridges into a standalone lever press. Special MEC dies fold the plastic so that the finished crimp visually resembles a roll crimp.

What makes the 600 Slugger special


The design is based on the MEC 600 Jr. Mark V but is specifically designed for reloading rifled slugs and sabot slugs. Press, dies, and lever mechanism form a standalone station; vise, drill press, hand drill, or separate spinner are not required for the intended workflow.
The plastic of the case is folded inward with MEC's special dies. The result looks like a roll crimp, but it is a machine-specific MEC crimp and not a classic, separately rotated roll crimp process.


Not a universal shotgun press: The 600 Slugger is designed for slug loads. MEC does not offer die sets for caliber changes for this model. For shot loads or another caliber, a press designed for that purpose is the safe choice.

Before buying note
The press cannot be converted to another caliber; die sets are not available according to MEC.
MEC states adjustability for 3-inch cases. Case length, components, and setup must exactly match the approved recipe.
For certain conversions between 3 inch and 2¾ inch, MEC offers separate Short Kits.
The specification of 100–125 cartridges per hour is not a guaranteed rate.

Safe workflow


Instructions and load data first: use only current, verified data from the component or bullet manufacturer; never improvise loads.

Mount press securely: ensure a stable workstation, safety glasses, and clean, dry components.

Check components clearly: Gauge, case length, case type, primer, powder, powder amount, wad/sabot, and slug must match the recipe.

Do not blindly accept the bushing: the three supplied bushings are no guarantee for a specific powder weight. Verify each dispensed powder amount with a suitable scale.

Work station by station: after each step, check the case for correct fit, damage, and unusual resistance.

Check closure: compare case length, folding, slug seating, and overall condition with the recipe specifications.

Stop if deviations occur: do not force components; clarify the cause using the MEC instructions.

Frequently asked questions
Is this press intended for shotgun shells? The 600 Slugger is specifically designed by MEC for rifled and sabot slugs. For regular shot loads, a suitable shotshell press should be used.
Can I convert it to 20 Gauge? No. MEC explicitly states no available die sets for caliber conversion. This variant is 12 Gauge; a separate press is required for 20 Gauge.
Does it produce a classic roll crimp? The special dies fold the plastic so that the closure looks like a roll crimp. This is not identical to the classic rotating roll crimp by spinner.
Are powder bushings included? Yes. MEC lists bushings 37, 38A, and 39A as well as a Slug Charge Bar for the 12-Gauge version.
Can I use the bushing directly as a safe powder charge? No. Bulk density and charge vary. The actual powder amount must be checked with a suitable scale and matched with approved load data.
What case length is supported? MEC describes the press as adjustable for 3-inch cases. Separate Short Kits are offered for certain 3-to-2¾-inch configurations; the specific setup must match case and recipe.
