The X‑10 is an automatically indexing 10-station progressive press for experienced reloaders. It combines case feed, drop-activated powder measure, inline primer swaging, tool head LED, and separate workstations in one system – designed for cartridges from 9 mm Luger up to the length of a .308 Winchester.

Our honest assessment

The strength of the X‑10 is not just speed, but reserves in the process. Ten stations allow, besides resizing, priming, powder charging, bullet seating, and crimping, additional space for separate depriming, primer swaging, powder control, or suitable trimming tools.
Important before purchase: The press is not a caliber-ready complete package. The matching X‑10 Shell Plate and dies are additionally required for the desired caliber. A bullet feed system is also optional. Anyone expecting a ready-to-use solution must plan for these items.

Purchase check before ordering


Caliber limit
Frankford Arsenal specifies cartridges from 9 mm Luger up to the length of a .308 Winchester. This is a length and system limit, not a guarantee for every caliber in between.


Shell Plate required
The appropriate X‑10 Shell Plate is needed for the specific caliber. Brownells explicitly points out that it must be purchased separately. Check caliber and Shell Plate assignment before ordering.


Dies & consumables
Caliber-specific dies, bullets, cases, primers, and powder are not part of the press package. A scale, a current reloading manual, and suitable measuring tools also belong at a safe loading station.


Workspace
The X‑10 is a large, heavy system and is securely bolted down with six mounting points. Also plan height and space for case sorter, feed tube, containers, and handle operating path.

What the ten stations practically offer


Automatic indexing
The gear-driven, rotating 10-station Shell Plate moves all cases to the next position with each stroke. Ball bearings in several assemblies support smooth operation and are intended to reduce powder spills and bullet tipping.


Double decapping
Two possible decapping stations help avoid pulled primers. This is especially valuable at high cycle rates because disruptions early in the process become costly.


Inline swaging
Small and large crimped primer pockets can be processed directly on the press. Swage support die as well as small and large priming/swage assemblies are listed in the documented scope of delivery.


Case-activated powder measure
The powder measure is case-activated and has a positive reset mechanism. Still, visual or mechanical powder level control remains mandatory; no press replaces checking every loaded charge.


Tool head with LED
The integrated lighting improves visibility of the stations. Tool head and Shell Plate are designed as interchangeable assemblies for caliber changes; additional heads and conversion kits are offered separately.


Spring-loaded locator buttons
Cases can be more easily removed or checked at the stations. Eight large locator buttons are included in the documented scope of delivery; the assignment must match the caliber used.

Instructor and user tips

1. Process first, then speed: Set up each station individually and test with dummy cartridges. Only increase cycle rate once feeding, indexing, primer seating, powder charge, seating depth, and crimp are reproducibly correct.
2. Keep powder flow visible: Plan a free station for a suitable powder check die. Re-verify the powder measure after every change of powder, rotor/setting, or caliber and regularly weigh charges.
3. Keep primer system clean: Primer dust and residues increase susceptibility to malfunctions. Clean feed tube, sensor, and priming assembly according to manufacturer instructions; never use force if a primer does not seat cleanly.
4. Test military cases separately: When inline swaging, first measure and check a few cases. Too little swage makes seating difficult; too much material removal or wrong setting is also undesirable.
5. Document caliber changes: Shell Plate, Locator Butt
ons, primer size, powder activator, and die position recorded as a setup sheet. This shortens later conversions and prevents mixed configurations.

Limits and typical bad purchases

Not a beginner press: Ten simultaneously operating stations multiply the number of processes that need to be monitored. Basics, safe load data, and a controlled workflow are prerequisites.
No shell plate in the base package: Without a suitable shell plate purchased separately, the press is not operational for the desired caliber.
Bullet feed not included: Frankford Arsenal lists Bullet Collator and caliber conversion kits as optional and sold separately.
"Up to .308 length" should not be confused with universality: Case head diameter, cartridge length, and available conversion parts must match for each caliber.
