Independent Primer Removal
The Frankford Arsenal Platinum Series Hand DePrimer 909283 cleanly separates primer removal from the pressing setup. The handheld tool accepts fired pistol and rifle cases from .20 caliber up to .338 Lapua, collects spent primers in the removable tube, and the handle returns spring-assisted after each stroke.

Works well if …

you want to remove primers before cleaning, sorting, or further processing,
you frequently switch between pistol and rifle cases,
you don’t want to convert a reloading press for small to medium batches,
you want to catch spent primers in a controlled way.

Less suitable if …

your high-throughput workflow already uses a dedicated depriming station,
you specifically need the leverage of a press,
you want to simultaneously size, seat new primers, or swage primer pockets,
your case falls outside the approved range.

Buying advice: What the tool really delivers
The Hand DePrimer is a standalone primer removal tool, not a replacement for sizing die, primer seating tool, or primer pocket swager. Its advantage lies in the fast, clean preliminary step: The reloading press stays set up while dirty cases are deprimed separately. Frankford Arsenal confirms the universal collet system for pistol and rifle cases from .20 to .338 Lapua and suitability for military crimped primers.
Important limit: A crimped spent primer can be removed; the primer pocket crimp is not removed by this. A dedicated swager or reamer is required for that.

Workflow and handling
Choose the appropriate one of the three supplied collets and adjust it so the case is centered and guided without noticeable play. The handle is squeezed evenly; the automatic case holder then facilitates removal. The spent primers fall into the removable collection tube.

Case and flash hole visible before the stroke
richten.
Stop if there is unusually high resistance and check the collet, case, and decapping pin.
Regularly empty the catch tube and keep the tool oriented downward while doing so.
Wear safety glasses and only work on fully fired, pressureless cases.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a reloading press? No. Model 909283 is a standalone hand tool and does not require press mounting.
Which cases can I work on? Frankford Arsenal approves pistol and rifle cases from .20 caliber to .338 Lapua. The specific case must be able to be cleanly centered with one of the three collets.
Does the tool remove military crimped primers? Yes, the manufacturer explicitly mentions crimped primers. Any remaining crimp in the primer pocket may need to be separately worked on before re-priming.
Why are three collets included? Small, medium, and magnum cover different case body diameters. The appropriate collet centers the case on the decapping pin.
Where do the old primers go? They are collected in the removable primer catch tube. The tube should be emptied regularly and carefully.
What do I do if there is unusually high resistance? Do not press harder. First check and realign the collet, case seating, flash hole, and decapping pin.
When is a universal decapping die more practical? For very large batches or a permanently set up press station, the leverage of the press can be more ergonomic and faster.
