Choose an optic mount based on ring size, height, and cant
The ADM RECON-H High QD mount, 1 inch/30/34 mm, 0 MOA, black is assessed based on fit, variant, and practical performance—without claiming hands-on testing.
Check fit first
Does this product fit your setup?
Good fit If the tube diameter, Picatinny interface, mounting height, cant, and any forward offset match your optic and firearm exactly.
Probably not a fit If you’ve only checked the ring diameter, or the objective, turret, ejection port, or eye relief could cause interference.
Pre-order checklist Ring diameter, rail standard, mounting height, MOA/MIL cant, offset, and QD configuration. Compare the selected variant with the markings on your existing system and the manufacturer’s documentation.
Extra mounting height is only an advantage if it solves a specific problem. The RECON-H raises a scope high enough to leave room for a laser or accessory system mounted on the top rail beneath the objective housing. The higher sight line also allows for a more upright head position. If you already use a standard 1.5-inch mount
If the eye sits properly behind the scope, the H version can make the setup unnecessarily high.
This offer includes three black, one-piece ADM cantilever mounts with 0 MOA: for 1-inch, 30 mm, or 34 mm main tubes. All three combine integrated rings, a 2-inch forward offset, and two adjustable Auto-Lock QD standard levers for a compatible Picatinny rail.
Which version fits the scope?
The protected old title mentions only 30 mm, but the live product includes three different tube diameters. The shop selection must therefore match the scope’s main tube exactly:
Black / 30mm / AR-15 / Quick Detach, Picatinny: AD-RECON-H-30-STD for 30 mm main tubes; 1.932 inches centerline height above the top of the rail. Matte Black / 34mm / Quick Detach, Picatinny: AD-RECON-H-34-STD for 34 mm main tubes; 2.010 inches centerline height. Matte Black / 1'' / AR-15 / Quick Detach, Picatinny: AD-RECON-H-1-STD for 1-inch main tubes; 1.841 inches centerline height.
The different values are due to the ring diameter. RECON-H is the tallest version in the ADM RECON family, but not every variant has exactly 1.93 inches of centerline height. That’s why the specific figure for the selected ring size matters more than a general height label.
What does the RECON-H change in the setup?
ADM describes the H version for setups with a laser sighting system on the top rail or for users who need a higher cheek weld or a more upright head position. The 2-inch cantilever moves the scope forward without having to place the QD clamping surfaces on the handguard. This lets you adjust eye relief on a flattop AR setup while keeping the mount base on the Picatinny top of the upper receiver.
The manufacturer states that it fits scopes with objective housings up to 56 mm. This is a maximum for the product family, not blanket approval for every setup: rail height, objective outside diameter, lens caps, and accessories mounted in front still determine actual clearance.
The base has no built-in cant. 0 MOA makes sense when you don’t want the mount to add mechanical elevation adjustment. If you specifically need 20 or 30 MOA for a long-range setup, you’ll need to choose a suitably canted version; these three shop options do not provide that cant.
QD system and construction
The RECON-H is CNC-machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and hard-anodized black to Mil-Spec Type III. ADM lists the RECON family weight as 8.4 oz. The two Auto-Lock levers can be adjusted to fit Picatinny rails within and outside the specified tolerances. According to the manufacturer, all you need to adjust them is a finger or a flathead screwdriver; no proprietary tool is required. The levers can be configured to lock forward or backward.
QD doesn’t mean the mount position is arbitrary. If you want the same mechanical starting position after removal, you need a fixed reference slot, the same stop direction, and correctly adjusted lever tension. The tube clamp must also be tightened according to the scope manufacturer’s current instructions.
Instructor tip: Check your head position before mounting the screws First, set up the unloaded platform with the fore-and-aft position provisionally determined. Get into your normal shooting position with your eyes closed, and open them only once your head and shoulder are naturally positioned. If your eye is then centered in the field of view, the height supports your shooting position. If you have to lift your chin or break cheek contact with the stock, RECON-H is probably too high—don’t try to train yourself into this problem by forcing your head position.
User tip: Use the cantilever instead of bridging the rail Keep both QD clamping points on the continuous Picatinny surface of the upper receiver. Use the built-in 2-inch offset to move the scope forward to br
ing, rather than placing the mounting base across the transition to the handguard. This keeps the mechanical reference on a single component.
User tip: Set the lever direction before zeroing
Position both levers so they don't obstruct the ejection port, controls, or other accessories. Then mark the selected rail slot. Don't casually change the lever direction, clamping tension, or slot position after zeroing; check the fit and point of impact again afterward.
Purchase criteria and alternatives
Buy if: the tube diameter and Picatinny interface are a definite match, you need a 2-inch cantilever, and the high centerline genuinely provides clearance or a deliberately upright head position.
Don't buy if: a standard or low scope position already allows a proper cheek weld, the tube has a different diameter, you need a canted mount, or you plan to use the base on an incompatible rail.
If 30 mm is the right fit but the RECON-H is too high, the ADM RECON 30 mm Cantilever Mount in standard height offers the same basic concept with a lower centerline. If you prefer a particularly robust, horizontally split ring design over the vertically split RECON rings, the ADM DELTA 30 mm QD Mount is a structurally different alternative. Both links are alternative options, not additional parts for the RECON-H.

What's included
Confirmed to be included is one black RECON-H QD cantilever mount with integrated rings in the selected diameter and two installed Standard levers. Scope, firearm or upper receiver, rail accessories, and tools are not included.
Packaging and installation note: ADM's current product page does not list all small parts individually. ADM's general mounting instructions refer to an included red-orange Threadmate packet. Check the actual package contents before installation. For ring screws, threadlocker, and tightening sequence, follow only the current instructions from ADM and the specific scope manufacturer.
Our assessment
The RECON-H isn't a universally better RECON; it's a targeted height solution. Its main selling point is the extra clearance combined with a 2-inch cantilever and quick-release Picatinny clamp. The three tube diameters make it versatile, but require careful variant selection.
The most common misconception is that a high mount automatically means a faster cheek weld. A more upright head position can be useful, but it needs to suit the stock, your posture, and eye relief. If you don't have a specific need for it, the standard RECON height is usually the more sensible choice.
FAQ
Which variant fits a 30 mm tube? Choose Black / 30mm / AR-15 / Quick Detach, Picatinny. This selection corresponds to AD-RECON-H-30-STD with a 1.932-inch centerline height.
Are all three variants exactly 1.93 inches high? No. ADM lists 1.841 inches for 1 inch, 1.932 inches for 30 mm, and 2.010 inches for 34 mm. The ring size changes the centerline height.
Is the mount suitable for a 20-MOA setup?
p suitable? These three versions have 0 MOA of elevation. If mechanical elevation is needed, choose a mount explicitly specified as 20 or 30 MOA. Why is the RECON-H so tall? ADM designed it to provide extra clearance above a laser or accessory system mounted on the top rail, and for users who need a higher, more upright head position. Can I adjust the QD tension myself? Yes. According to ADM, no proprietary tool is required; adjustment can be made with your finger or a flathead screwdriver. The mount should then fit securely without play and without forcing it closed. Does every scope with a 56-mm objective fit? Not automatically. ADM lists objective housings up to 56 mm for the family, but the main tube diameter, lens caps, rail height and other accessories must also fit the specific setup. Technical specifications in practice
Purchase-critical specifications Ring diameter, rail standard, height, MOA/MIL elevation, offset and QD configuration.
Practical implications The right geometry provides clearance, proper eye relief and usable elevation adjustment; the wrong height or too much elevation can significantly limit use.
Limitations and how to avoid a bad purchase
Important before installation and use Install only on a completely unloaded firearm. Tighten screws in a cross pattern with a suitable torque wrench, following the manufacturer's instructions; check the QD tension and point of impact after initial installation.
What's included Only the version explicitly named in the existing product text and selected variant is included. Firearms, optics or other accessories shown are included only if explicitly listed.
Black-Raptor's take: This version makes sense if the purchase-critical dimensions and interfaces have been clearly confirmed in advance. If compatibility is unclear, first check the model designation and existing mount.
Our product assessment from the Black-Raptor team
Dealer contribution by Black-Raptor.
A tall mount should meet a specific need. That's why we appreciate the clearly defined height options within the ADM family of the RECON-H. Our range includes three black QD versions for 1-inch, 30-mm and 34-mm main tubes, each with 0 MOA. This lets you choose the tall design to match the tube diameter.
The manufacturer's specifications show an important difference: ADM lists a centerline height of 1.841 inches for the RECON-H with a 1-inch tube diameter, 1.932 inches for 30 mm and 2.010 inches for 34 mm. So “High” doesn't mean the same numerical height for every version. We consider this precise matching an important part of making a good purchase decision; the family name alone isn't enough to assess the mount height.
From our perspective as a dealer, the RECON-H is a targeted alternative to the standard RECON when a taller version is specifically needed. Tube size and height should both be confirmed before ordering. If you don't need the extra height, consider the standard version as well. Our assessment is based on the current ADM model table. We do not claim to have conducted our own durability or repeatability tests on all three versions.
