When converting a bolt-action rifle, the color choice is the last step. Before that, the inlet, action length, and magazine format must be correct. This X-Ray Gen 4 chassis combines six Remington 700 versions, but not the same mechanism: three for Short Action and three for Long Action.
The practical benefit lies in the adjustable stock geometry and the intended mounting points, not in a blanket "Remington 700" compatibility. The selection texts look very similar in parts. The assignment below clearly resolves them so that the chosen version really fits the existing system.

On this product page, six Gen 4 versions are listed together. The title names the FDE Short Action version; the selection also includes Long Action chassis. Color and the text "Remington" are therefore not sufficient purchase criteria. The decisive factor is exclusively the Action Footprint that fits your system.

Important purchase boundary: "Sako Green / Remington / Chassis" without addition is Long Action; "Sako Green / Remington / Chassis Variant 6" is Short Action. For Black and FDE, the Long Action variants are also behind the additions "Variant 3" and "Variant 4" respectively. Do not select based on pictures, color, or a similarly sounding chassis.

What this chassis changes in the build
The X-Ray does not take a universal stock place but replaces the stock with an action-specific chassis. A suitable Remington 700 system with barrel is installed; the magazine belonging to the chosen action length is added. A Long Action inlet is not converted to a Short
-Action chassis and vice versa.
For the short-action versions, the Gen-4 manual specifies .308 AICS magazines. The long-action manual names AICS CIP-length magazines. A magazine is not included. Also, a Tikka, Howa, or other inlet will not fit the Remington 700 chassis just by adjusting the color selection.

Adjustment with a clear purpose
The height and tilt adjustment of the stock cap is done via the thumb adjuster. The cheek rest is set to the relaxed head position with a clamping screw; the O-rings on the bridges serve as a repeatable reference after removal. The stock length, on the other hand, is adjusted via spacers and the attachment of the stock cap. “Tool-free” here does not generally apply to every adjustment.
The Gen-4 documentation describes a hybrid construction of aluminum and polymer with aluminum bedding for the action. This chassis is intended for a precise, custom-built bolt-action rifle—not as a cosmetic shell for a system whose footprint is still unclear.

Our assessment
The strongest reason to buy is the cleanly adjustable contact geometry with a clearly defined Remington 700 inlet. The most common misconception is assuming all six selection options are just color variants. They share the chassis family but not the same action length or magazine requirement.
For a confirmed short- or long-action build, this is a sensible way to cheek rest, stock cap, and intended accessory points. If you don’t yet know which system length you have, first clarify the footprint and magazine format; only then will the shop selection be reliable.

Trainer tip: first the head position, then the stock length
Align the unloaded system with the intended optic. Adjust the cheek rest so your eye aligns with the optic without lifting or pushing down your head. Only then adjust the stock length and stock cap height. This way, the optical axis remains the fixed reference instead of a subsequent correction of head posture.

User note: The magazine is not a rest
The manual warns against resting the rifle on the AICS magazine when shooting: pressure can push the magazine against the bolt. Use a designated bipod, bag, or suitable stock rest for support and keep the magazine path clear.

User note: Check magazine fit only after installation
After assembly, insert the magazine and check feed and clearance. The manuals allow a slight forward/backward adjustment of the fore-end for magazine fit; on the long-action model, the trigger guard can also be finely positioned after removing the system if needed. Do not improvise with a supposedly fitting magazine length.

User note: Clarify trigger hanger beforehand
Systems with trigger hanger do not work without modifications to the chassis, the hanger, or both, according to product documentation. If this adjustment is not planned and professionally feasible, this chassis is not the right purchase decision.

Suitable orientation in the shop
For a confirmed Remington 700 Short Action build, the KRG BRAVO Chassis for Remington 700 SA is a separate chassis alternative – not a conversion part for Long Action.
For a Tikka T3x system, this Remington inlet does not fit. Instead, there is the standalone KRG Tikka T3X X-RAY Chassis with its own platform assignment.
