Vortex Viper HD · 3–15×44 · SFP · Dead-Hold BDC Hunting all-rounder with distance reserve – without long-range specialization The Viper HD 3–15×44 combines a wide hunting application range with an illuminated Dead-Hold BDC reticle and side parallax. Its strength is the middle ground: more range than classic 3–9x scopes, but more compact and versatile than large 5–25x long-range optics.

Our honest assessment
The SFP reticle is the most important point for the purchase decision. The BDC markings change their angular reference when zooming and therefore must be confirmed at the intended reference magnification with your own ballistics. A BDC does not replace real zeroing.
Fits well / fits less well

Fits well if … you want to combine stand hunting, stalking, and moderate distance work in one optic, use side parallax, and can consciously handle an SFP BDC.

Fits less well if … true 1x, FFP hold marks at every magnification, extreme long-range turret work, or maximum lightweight are your priorities.

Features with practical impact

3–15×44 3x offers a usable overview, 15x enough reserve for more precise target engagement. It remains an all-round scope and is no replacement for an LPVO or 25x long-range optic.

SFP Dead-Hold BDC The reticle remains optically the same size. Hold marks must therefore be confirmed at the intended magnification and with your own ballistics.

Side parallax The range from 20 yd supports more precise work at varying distances. The adjustm
Ellung should be visually checked, not just by scale.

30-mm tube Requires matching 30-mm rings. Choose ring height as low as reasonably possible, as long as objective clearance and reproducible stop are maintained.

Limits, disadvantages and avoiding bad purchases

3x is not a true close-range 1x For very fast target acquisition at short distance, LPVO or red dot are usually more suitable.

BDC is not a meter scale Bullet, velocity, zeroing distance and sight line height determine the real point of impact.

Don’t overestimate 15x More magnification reduces the field of view and increases the demands on cheek weld, focus and parallax control.

Consider weight At around 610 g, the optic is not an ultralight model; mounting and weapon balance are part of system planning.

Technical data with practical interpretation

Magnification / objective 3–15×44 – wide all-round range with moderate height.

Reticle / image plane illuminated Dead-Hold BDC MOA, SFP – use hold marks depending on magnification.

Parallax 20 yd to infinity – sensible for changing hunting and range distances.

Click / adjustment range 1/4 MOA, 25 MOA per turn, 92 MOA elevation and windage.

Eye relief approx. 86 mm – check mounting position before final tightening in shooting position.

Length / weight approx. 335 mm and approx. 610 g – more compact than large long-range scopes, but not ultralight.

Scope of delivery
Viper HD 3–15×44, neoprene cover, sunshade, lens cloth and CR2032 battery.
FAQ
Are the BDC marks the same at every magnification? No. The reticle is in the second image plane; the angular reference changes when zooming. Does the scope have side parallax? Yes. The adjustment range starts at 20 yd and goes to infinity. What mount do I need? The tube is 30 mm. Additionally, ring height and eye relief must fit the specific setup. Is 3x ideal for driven hunt? It can be usable, but is clearly less agile than true 1x or a red dot setup.

Black Raptor · honestly rated The Viper HD 3–15×44 is a convincing all-rounder when hunting and moderate distance work come together. Those who need FFP, true 1x or extreme long-range magnification should consciously choose a different optic.
