30 mm tube red dot · Red/Green · Lower 1/3
Vortex StrikeFire II: classic 30 mm red dot with a large sight picture and ready-to-use AR mount
The StrikeFire II is deliberately not an ultra-small micro red dot. Its advantage is its rugged tube design with a 30 mm objective, 4 MOA dot, and cantilever mount at Lower 1/3 height. The red/green version lets you choose the dot color to suit your eye and background.

Black Raptor quick review

Strongest point
Large 30 mm sight picture and straightforward operation—especially well suited to AR/PCC/carbine platforms.

Mount included
According to Vortex, the cantilever mount positions the optical axis about 40 mm above the base, providing Lower 1/3 co-witness height.

Main limitation
At approx. 142 mm long and approx. 204 g, it is significantly larger than modern micro red dots.

Important
This version has a selectable red or green 4 MOA dot. Vortex itself notes that pure red dot versions are also available.

4 MOA and 30 mm tube: what that means in practice
4 MOA covers approximately 11.6 cm at 100 m, about 5.8 cm at 50 m, and about 2.9 cm at 25 m. This makes the dot clearly suited to fast target acquisition and controlled short- to medium-range use—not the finest possible precision groups at long range.
The tube design offers a familiar, more protected sight picture and a generous objective opening. However, it takes up more space and weighs more than small open or enclosed micro optics.

Instructor tip: Lower 1/3 is not automatically a “better” height. Get into your natural shooting position several times. If you have to raise or lower your head, the height does not match your stock line and body position.

Buy it if – or better not?

Buy it if …

You’re looking for a rugged 30 mm tube-style red dot.
Lower 1/3 height works with your AR/PCC setup.
4 MOA makes sense for your short-/medium-range use.
You want to choose between a red and green dot.

Don’t buy it if …

You want to minimize weight.
You need a direct-mount footprint for pistols.
You’re looking for an enclosed micro emitter.
You primarily engage small targets at longer distances.

StrikeFire II or Crossfire?
The Crossfire Green Dot is more compact, has a finer 2 MOA dot, and offers two mounting heights. The StrikeFire II, on the other hand, offers a 30 mm tube sight picture, 4 MOA, and a ready-to-use cantilever mount. The UH-1 Gen II takes a different approach: a holographic reticle, a larger window, and a significantly higher price.

Risk of a bad purchase: On classic bolt-action rifles with a low stock line, the Lower 1/3 mount may be unnecessarily high. Platform geometry matters more than the product name.

FAQ
Is the dot really red and green? With this Red/Green version, you can switch the 4 MOA dot between red and green. What does Lower 1/3 Co-Witness mean? With a compatible platform, the iron sights sit in the lower third of the sight picture. Vortex lists the optical axis height of the Cantilever Mount as around 40 mm above the base. How large is 4 MOA at 50 m? 4 MOA corresponds to an angular coverage of approximately 5.8 cm at 50 m. Can the StrikeFire II be used on a pistol? It’s a 30 mm tube sight with a cantilever mount, not a typical pistol micro red dot. Micro-footprint optics designed for pistols are a much better choice. Is it better than a micro red dot? Not across the board. The StrikeFire II offers a tube sight picture and rugged controls; micro red dots are smaller and lighter. The platform is what matters.
