Black Raptor Product Check · FFP Precision Optic
Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5–27x56 EBR-7C MRAD: optical and mechanical reserve – clearly specialized at 1.375 kg
The Razor Gen II is a large precision scope: 34 mm tube, 56 mm objective, FFP EBR-7C, 0.1 MRAD adjustment and L-Tec turrets. Its strength is system depth; its biggest risk of a bad purchase is the weight.
Strength 4.5–27x, 56 mm and EBR-7C in first focal plane.
Mechanics 0.1 MRAD, 10 MRAD/rev, 33 MRAD elevation and 14 MRAD windage travel.
Limit 365.8 mm long and about 1,375 g – no lightweight glass.
Risk of bad purchase 34 mm tube requires a matching mount; 30 mm rings are not compatible.
FFP and EBR-7C: why the reticle plane is decisive for purchase
In the FFP design, the reticle scales with magnification. This keeps its MRAD subtensions proportional to the target image across the zoom range. This fundamentally distinguishes this optic from SFP LPVOs, whose subtension-based references typically only match at a defined magnification.
The EBR-7C is a finely structured MRAD reticle. Whether this information density is helpful or too much depends on the use. For a user who just wants a simple hunting reticle, less structure is often more pleasant.
Technical data with practical interpretation
Magnification
4.5–27x – wide range, but no 1x/close-range concept.
Objective
56 mm – high optical reserve, at the same time large and mount-critical.
Focal plane / reticle
FFP, illuminated EBR-7C MRAD – subtensions scale with magnification.
Eye relief
94 mm according to Seven Oaks.
Field of view
8.4–1.5
m at 100 m.
Tube
34 mm – not compatible with 30 mm rings.
Turrets
Exposed Locking, L-Tec/Zero-Stop system.
Click / Travel
0.1 MRAD; 10 MRAD/revolution; 33 MRAD height, 14 MRAD windage.
Parallax
adjustable from 32 yd / approx. 29.3 m.
Dimensions / Weight
365.8 mm / 1,375 g.
Protection
IPX7, argon filling, one-piece aircraft aluminum.
Buy if …
You specifically want FFP and MRAD in a large precision scope.
27x and 56 mm actually make sense for your application.
Weight is secondary to mechanics and optical reserve.
34 mm mounting is already planned.
Don’t buy if …
You want a lightweight hunting scope for long carrying times.
You need a true 1x LPVO.
You prefer a simple, very quiet reticle.
Your existing mounting system only accepts 30 mm.
Gen II 4.5–27x56 or lighter Razor?
The Gen II prioritizes mechanical reserve, 56 mm objective, and high zoom range. The Razor HD LHT 3–15x42 is significantly lighter and more hunting-friendly in comparison but offers less magnification and objective area. The better choice therefore depends more on the overall setup than on price.
Other alternatives: Vortex Optics and Sportoptik & Zieloptiken.
Practical tips for selection and setup
Calculate weight before purchase: 1,375 g is only the scope; mounting and other accessories add on.
Don’t overlook 34 mm: The tube diameter is a hard interface. Existing 30 mm rings do not fit.
Understand 27x as an option: High magnification narrows the field of view and eyebox and makes mirage more visible.
Adjust parallax and diopter separately: Both controls serve different optical functions.
Scope of delivery
Seven Oaks lists sunshade, side focus lever, two CR2032 batteries, protective caps, cleaning cloth, and L-Tec tool.
External user feedback
On the Seven Oaks product page there is an older verifiable single review with a very positive assessment of quality and product. This is a single user opinion, not a reliable long-term test, and is therefore not considered a general performance guarantee.
FAQ
Is the EBR-7C in the first focal plane? Yes. Seven Oaks explicitly lists this variant as FFP. The MRAD reticle scales together with the target image. What mounting size is needed? The main tube diameter is 34 mm. Accordingly, suitable 34 mm rings or a 34 mm mount are required. How heavy is the scope? Seven Oaks states 1,375 g. This clearly places it in the heavy precision class. How far does the parallax adjustment reach? According to Seven Oaks, it starts at 32 yd or about 29.3 m. Is 27x always the best setting? No. More magnification reduces the field of view and can make mirage and a more critical eye position more visible.
