Vortex Crossfire HD · 4–12×44 · Dead-Hold 2A BDC More distance reserve, side parallax and illuminated centre This 4–12×44 variant combines the more distance-oriented zoom range with adjustable parallax and an illuminated BDC centre. The added value only comes into play if exactly these three functions are needed in your own workflow.

Our honest assessment
Illumination makes the reticle more visible, but not the target image brighter. At the same time, this variant adds more weight, battery demand and additional operation. If you mostly work in good light, the non-illuminated 4–12×44 version can be easier to handle.
Fits well / fits less well

Fits well if … you want to consciously use 4–12x, BDC hold marks, illuminated centre and side parallax together.

Fits less well if … you want to stay as light and battery-free as possible or your use is often below 4x.

Features with practical effect

4–12×44 More detail reserve than 3–9x, but less overview at the lower end.

6 brightness levels The centre can be adapted to the background. In low light: as low as possible, as bright as necessary.

Parallax from 13 m Especially relevant at 12x. The setting should be visually checked, not just by scale value.

SFP-BDC Hold marks remain magnification-dependent and must be confirmed with your own load at the intended reference magnification.

Limits, disadvantages and avoiding bad purchases

Don’t overdo illumination Too high brightness can cause the centre to bloom and obscure fine target contours.

More weight Around 610 g change balance and carrying feel more than lighter Crossfire HD variants.

BDC remains setup-specific Illumination does not change the fact that hold marks must be practically confirmed with your own ammunition.

4x is k
a close-range 1x For fast short distances, LPVO or red dot sights are more suitable.

Black Raptor · functions only if they help
This version is worthwhile if illumination and side parallax are actually used. Those who can do without save complexity and weight with the non-illuminated sister model.
