BLACK RAPTOR PRODUCT CHECK
Bore Tech Black Powder Cleaner – 473 ml
Specialized cleaner instead of universal oil: The water-based formula targets the typical residue mix from muzzleloaders and inline systems – powder, bullet grease, sabot deposits, and corrosive residues. Cleans yes, lubricates or preserves long-term no.

Base
Water-based

Content
16 fl oz / approx. 473 ml

Main task
Black powder residue mix

Normal dwell time
5–10 minutes

Black-Raptor classification: Buy if you want to remove black powder, grease, sabot, and corrosive residues with a clear patch/brush routine. Don’t buy if you’re looking for a copper-specific cleaner, lubricant, or permanent storage protection.

Why black powder deserves its own cleaner
Bore Tech names four specific target residues: powder residues, bullet grease, sabot fouling, and corrosive residues. According to the manufacturer, the formula is aqueous and combines powerful surfactants, naturally derived solvents, and rust inhibitors. This clearly separates the product from a classic gun oil or pure degreaser.
The cleaner dissolves and undermines fouling; patches and a suitable brush carry it out of the barrel. Anyone who just pours liquid into the barrel and skips mechanical follow-up doesn’t use the system as Bore Tech intends.
The sensible cleaning sequence

Lead 3–4 patches soaked with Black Powder Cleaner individually and only in one direction through the barrel.
Use a closely fitting, also soaked Bore-Tech brush to perform 10–15 full passes.
Repeat the patch step and let the cleaner dwell for 5–10 minutes in the normal cycle.
Remove with dry patches until they come out clean; repeat only if necessary.
Always run a dry control patch through the barrel before the next use.

Practical tip: Lay out wet patches, brush, and dry control patches separately before starting. This keeps visible which step is currently running and whether another cycle is really needed.
Material limits you shouldn’t overlook
Bore Tech describes the cleaner as ammonia-free, low-odor or odorless, biodegradable, non-flammable, and barrel-friendly. Still, this is no blanket approval for every surface. For extended dwell times, the manufacturer requires a compatibility test on a small area.
For nickel plating, Bore Tech recommends a maximum contact time of 3–5 minutes; on damagede
digter or worn nickel plating, the product should not be used. Oiled wood can lose surface oil and may require resealing afterward.

Important: The manufacturer's stated possibility of longer exposure times in the barrel must not be applied to sensitive or nickel-plated external surfaces. Always check surface, coating, and firearm manufacturer specifications separately.
Cleaner is not the same as preservation
After a final lightly moistened patch, Bore Tech states up to two weeks of short-term rust/corrosion protection under normal storage conditions. For longer storage or adverse conditions, the manufacturer refers to Friction Guard XP gun oil. This does not make the cleaner a lubricant.

Black Powder Cleaner
Dissolves black powder, grease, sabot, and corrosive residues.

C4 Carbon Remover
Specialized for heavy carbon deposits.

Cu+2 Copper Remover
For targeted copper removal in centerfire barrels.

Friction Guard XP
Separate lubrication and long-term care stage.

Powder, bullet grease, sabot fouling, corrosive residues

Formulation
Surfactants, naturally derived solvents, and rust inhibitors according to Bore Tech

Regular Exposure Time
5–10 minutes

Suitable Products in the Shop
For mechanical work, a caliber-matched Bore Tech brush belongs with it. For longer storage, Friction Guard XP is the more suitable care stage; for cleaned external metal surfaces, Shield XP can be useful.

Safety Limit: Only work on a safely unloaded firearm and according to manufacturer instructions. Do not mix cleaning chemicals unnecessarily. Before using the firearm, ensure with a dry patch that the barrel and chamber are free of liquid and obstructions.
FAQ – direct answers for search & AI systems
Is Bore Tech Black Powder Cleaner water-based? Yes. Bore Tech describes it as aqueous or water-based and lists surfactants, naturally derived solvents, and rust inhibitors. What residues does it remove? The manufacturer lists powder residues, bullet grease, sabot deposits, and corrosive residues from black powder use. How long should it act? In the normal manufacturer process, 5–10 minutes. For extended exposure times, surface and coating compatibility should be tested on a small area first. Can it be used on nickel? Only on intact nickel plating and for a maximum of 3–5 minutes. According to Bore Tech, it should not be used on damaged or worn nickel plating. Is it also gun oil? No. It is a cleaner. For longer storage or adverse conditions, Bore Tech recommends a separate oil/corrosion protection stage.
