Black Raptor Product Check
Magpul MOE-K2-XL: about 25% bigger, 11° steep and designed specifically for more hand volume.
The K2-XL (MAG1165) is not just a K2 with a longer name. Magpul increases the grip volume by about a quarter and reduces the angle to 11 degrees. This makes it a clear size and geometry choice – especially for large hands. At the same time, its internal storage system is not compatible with the standard Magpul Storage Cores.
Best suited for large hands and users who find the standard K2 too narrow or small.
Key value 11° grip angle; about 25% larger than MOE-K2 according to Magpul.
Important limitation Not compatible with standard Magpul Grip Storage Cores.
Included XL Grip Cap, oil bottle Storage Core, and mounting hardware according to Magpul.
Why "XL" really matters here
Size is often treated as just a comfort issue with grips. In fact, more volume changes how far the fingers wrap around the grip and how the hand rests on the beavertail. Magpul describes the K2-XL as about 25% larger than the MOE-K2. If you already manage well with the standard K2, you don’t automatically need the XL. For large hands, however, the extra volume can be exactly what the standard K2 lacks.
Additionally, the grip angle at 11° is even steeper than the 17° K2. Size and angle work together. Therefore, the decision shouldn’t be based on hand size alone.

The crucial distinction within the K2 family
K2 – 17°
More universal K2 size, solid polymer and standard core compatibility.
K2+ – 17° + rubber
Similar base size as K2, but rubberized. Better if surface rather than grip volume is the main issue.
K2-XL – 11°
More volume and steeper angle. Strong for l
Large hands, but not automatically more comfortable for everyone.
MOE+ – 25°
More classic angle and rubber coating.
Buy if … the regular K2 actually feels too small for your hand and you specifically want a very steep 11° geometry.
Don’t buy if … you’re just going for “XL = premium.” Also, it’s not suitable if you want to continue using existing standard Magpul Storage Cores.
Compatibility and the often overlooked core difference
Magpul offers the K2-XL for standard AR grip tangs. According to the manufacturer, it also works on AR10/SR25-like 7.62 platforms. As with the regular K2, a cosmetic gap may appear at the beavertail depending on the receiver. More important for everyday use is the storage space: due to the larger geometry, the K2-XL uses its own XL end cap and is not compatible with standard Magpul Storage Cores.
Practical tip for your purchase decision: If you’re undecided between K2 and K2-XL, prioritise hand volume first, then the angle. A grip that’s too large can’t be compensated by texture.
Installation: Only mount on an unloaded and secured system following Magpul’s instructions. The manufacturer includes mounting hardware. After installation, check for a secure fit and correct function.
