A narrow fore-end can work on a front bag but requires a clean, repeatable hand position. Under time pressure or on an uneven barricade, this quickly becomes a balance issue: the rifle tips, the support hand searches for its place, and the setup reacts sensitively to lateral pressure.
This is where the Baker Wings come in. One side piece on the left and right creates a wide, flat contact zone, a thumb rest, and more surface area for the support hand. The accessory neither replaces a stable base position nor a properly filled bag; it specifically changes the interface between the M-LOK fore-end, rest, and hand.
What changes in the process
Wider bag contact: Instead of a narrow edge, more surface area rests on the bag. This makes reproducible alignment easier, especially when the rifle must be set down and realigned quickly.
Defined hand contact: The ergonomic thumb rest gives the support hand a clear reference point. The benefit only arises if grip position and pressure remain consistent in training.
More grip: MDT integrates grip tape on the underside. It supports contact with the bag but does not make the bag’s shape, filling, and positioning unimportant.
Sling option: The integrated QD Flush Cup can hold a sling. You must first check whether the sling runs freely from this side position and does not interfere with the hand or rest.
ARCA remains usable: According to the current MDT specification, the Wings do not block the ARCA rail on the MDT ACC. This is a model-specific statement about the ACC and not a blanket approval for other rail or chassis geometries.
Our assessment
The strongest reason to buy is not the additional mounting surface itself but the combination of bag contact and support hand. Those who often work from barricades, props, or a front bag can more easily find and control the same area of the fore-end. For a rifle used almost exclusively prone from a bipod, this advantage remains largely unused.
The most common misconception would be to treat M-LOK alone as a sufficient compatibility check. Also crucial are the free length, hole position, clearance next to ARCA, bipod, or handstop accessories, and the outer contour of the specific fore-end. The Wings come as a pair and widen both sides; this is functionally intentional but can make transport and regripping less slim.
Buy if: you work with a front bag and barricade, consciously guide the support hand on the fore-end, and the setup offers enough free M-LOK surface. Don’t buy if: minimal weight and slim contour take priority, your mounting area is already occupied, or you want a stop edge instead of a wide resting surface.
Compatibility and mounting limit
The current MDT product page lists M-LOK as the interface and includes MDT ACC Premier and Elite, LSS-XL Gen2, ESS, and TAC21. Additionally, MDT names other competition chassis as well as AR-10 and AR-15 fore-ends with matching M-LOK geometry. This list does not replace a check on the specific
en Model: Generation, fore-end design, pre-installed accessories, and free position must match.
The current MDT product page lists at least two required M-LOK slots; older Brownells documents mention four full slots. Therefore, check the continuous free mounting surface and the exact hole position on your fore-end before purchase. The four mounting holes of the Wings and the supplied hardware must be arranged without offset or collision.
For AR-15 builds, MDT describes a recess on the underside for the front takedown pin. This does not automatically approve every handguard: profile, slot position, and pin access must remain free on the actual build. For mounting or dismounting, the firearm must be unloaded; magazine and bolt are removed before starting work. No torque value is specified in the referenced documents and is therefore not invented here.
Clear counterpart: A chassis or stock with a suitably positioned, freely accessible M-LOK surface is required. Chassis, stock, front bag, sling, or other support accessories are not included.
Trainer and user tips
Trainer tip – train pressure direction: First set up the same barricade position without and then with the Wings. Observe not only the seemingly steadier sight picture but whether thumb, palm, and bag find the same contact points each time. Lateral pressure remains an operating error, even if the support becomes wider.
User tip – position dry first: Place both Wings on the fore-end before tightening. Check bipod mount, ARCA clamp, handstop, magazine access, and the spot where the bag actually rests. This way you recognize a collision before the hardware is stressed.
User tip – consciously choose QD point: Use the integrated flush cup only if the clicked-in sling remains free from bag and support hand when resting. If the sling routing is unfavorable there, the QD point remains unused; the actual support function is not worsened by this.

FAQ
What is the main function of the Baker Wings? They widen the contact area on the M-LOK fore-end and simultaneously create defined surfaces for front bag and support hand. A barricade stop with a fixed stop edge is not equivalent to this.
Is one existing M-LOK slot sufficient as proof of compatibility? No. MDT specifies at least two slots; additionally, the four holes, free length, and build space must fit your fore-end. Pre-installed accessories can block the correct place.
Do the Wings fit every MDT ACC? MDT lists ACC Premier and Elite as compatible families. Still, generation, fore-end design, slot
Check the position and existing attachments on the specific chassis.
Can the ARCA rail still be used? For the MDT ACC, the manufacturer states that the ARCA rail is not blocked. This statement must not be transferred unchecked to other chassis or retrofitted rails.
Is the QD Flush Cup mandatory? No. It is an additional sling attachment point. If the sling at this position interferes with your hand or bag, the QD point can remain free without changing the support function.
Who is a slimmer alternative more suitable for? Those who only want a repeatable thumb rest, rarely work on bags, or want to keep weight and external contour small should choose an M-LOK thumb rest rather than the paired wings.
