MDT · AICS Short Action · 3/5 Rounds
MDT Polymer AICS Magazine .308 / 6.5 Creedmoor: Choose capacity by overall length This magazine’s 3 or 5 rounds is not just a matter of quantity. The shorter version reduces the protrusion under the action; the 5-round version offers more reserve. Both require a matching AICS Short Action magazine well and a suitable cartridge overall length.
BR classification: interesting for hunting, rest shooting, and controlled precision series. If you need high training capacity, .300 WSM, or another magazine interface, you should choose a different solution right away.
Does this fit your setup?
Fits well if … your system confirms AICS Short Action support, you use .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, or a suitable caliber family within 2.850 inch cartridge overall length, and you want to consciously choose between low profile and more reserve.
Fits less if … your chassis or bottom metal uses a different interface, you want to use .300 WSM or cartridges over 2.850 inch overall length, or you need maximum series capacity.
Variant choice with practical effect
3 Rounds The consistently short variant for the lowest possible profile under the action. Useful on sandbags, backpack rests, shooting sticks, or anywhere a long
s magazine would first touch the surface.
5 rounds Two more cartridges in reserve while maintaining a compact design. The confirmed data available states a height of 3.25 inches. However, for ACC Elite and ACC Premier Gen2, this 5-round polymer version is not the preferred pairing.
AICS Short Action caliber alone is not enough. Action length, magazine well, and actual AICS fit must all match.
Polymer body Glass fiber reinforced polymer saves weight and keeps the magazine compact. Damaged feed lips or deformed bodies are still exclusion criteria.
Avoid limits, disadvantages, and bad purchases
.300 WSM: MDT recommends a metal magazine with adjustable feed lips for this.
Winchester XPC: excluded according to confirmed data.
Winchester Model 70: may require modification work.
ACC Elite / ACC Premier Gen2: the 5-round polymer version is not the ideal choice due to the larger magazine well; rather plan for a 5-round metal or larger polymer magazine there.
Third-party bottom metals: AICS-compatible does not automatically guarantee a drop-in fit.
Technical data with practical interpretation
Capacity 3 or 5 rounds. The shorter version prioritizes height, the larger reserve.
Interface AICS Short Action. Check chassis or bottom metal specifically before ordering.
Max cartridge length 2.850 inches. Especially with handloads, measure the finished cartridge in advance.
Material Glass fiber reinforced polymer with hardened steel spring.
Main calibers .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor; other suitable SA calibers only within confirmed magazine and OAL limits.
5-round height 3.25 inches according to existing data set. Relevance: avoid contact with rest or surface.
Scope of delivery
1 × MDT Polymer AICS magazine in the chosen capacity, black. Firearm, chassis, bottom metal, ammunition, and other accessories are not included.
Safe use
Only insert, remove, or check the magazine on an unloaded system. Before use, check the magazine body, feed lips, and spring function. After locking in, check if the magazine locks securely, the bolt travel is free, and the load used is within the intended cartridge length.
FAQ
Is the designation .308 or 6.5 Creedmoor enough for selection? No. Additionally, AICS Short Action, the specific magazine well, and cartridge overall length must fit. When is 3 rounds more sensible? When as little magazine as possible should protrude below the system, e.g., with low rests, hunting, or compact transport. Can I use .300 WSM? MDT recommends a metal magazine for this because adjustable feed lips are needed. What applies to handloads? The finished cartridge must not exceed the confirmed maximum overall length of 2.850 inches. Is the 5-round version ideal for ACC Elite or ACC Premier Gen2? Not according to the available confirmed data. Due to the larger magazine well, a 5-round metal magazine or a larger polymer magazine is rather intended there.
Black Raptor · Choose capacity consciously
3 rounds is more compact, 5 rounds offer more reserve A good choice when AICS Short Action, cartridge length, and desired height fit cleanly together. The short version is not a makeshift solution but can be the functionally better decision with low rests.
