Description

For a left-handed precision build, a compromise often only becomes noticeable when your hand searches for a control unit in the shooting position or the rifle doesn’t rest neutrally on a barricade. That’s why this chassis isn’t just a cosmetic stock swap but the foundation for a defined Remington 700 Short Action build: left-hand footprint, Short Action AICS magazine, ARCA underside, and the already integrated ergonomic components all work together here.

The crucial point is the clear system boundary. You get a complete chassis system, but not a ready-to-shoot rifle. You’ll need a suitable left-handed Remington 700 Short Action barrel/system unit and a Short Action AICS magazine. If you plan a right-hand action, a Long Action, or a particularly lightweight hunting setup, don’t try to adapt this platform but choose the model designed for that purpose.

Our assessment
The strongest reason to buy is the combination of a solid platform and sensible adjustability. The continuous ARCA fore-end creates a clear interface for a matching ARCA clamp; the M-LOK mounts let you expand the build without turning the chassis into a random accessory collection. The included SRS-X Elite stock, the Elite Vertical Grip with Connector Bar, and the thumb rests positioned on both sides save you from searching for basic components but don’t replace proper adjustment to body position and use case.

The most common misconception is that such a system automatically shoots better. Instead, it creates the conditions to reproducibly organize the shooting position, balance point, and contact with the rest. This is useful for stage positions, barricades, and repeated shot sequences; if you don’t use these adjustment options, you’re buying a lot of chassis for little practical added value.

Build and interfaces
The platform is tailored to a left-handed Remington 700 Short Action. The magazine standard boundary is just as clear: Short Action AICS magazines are intended. A Long Action magazine, a different action footprint, or assuming every Remington 700-like system fits regardless of hand and length leads in the wrong direction.

Under the fore-end lies the continuous ARCA interface; on the outside, M-LOK mounts are added. This lets you plan the rest and accessory side precisely. For a balance build, the active MDT One Piece Interior Weight ACC is the more suitable addition than a random extra weight. For rear rests, the M-LOK slot on the stock uses the MDT Rear Bag Rider M-LOK; both links lead to active items in the shop.

Ergonomics that count in use
The SRS-X Elite stock allows, according to MDT, tool-free adjustment of cheek rest height, its forward/back position, length of pull, and stock cap height. Together with the Elite Vertical Grip and the two M-LOK thumb rests, this isn’t a promise of a universal shooting position but a kit for an individual, repeatable hand and head position. The Connector Bar connects grip and stock; MDT explicitly lists it as a component for higher stability and stiffness.

The underside can be supplemented with the included grip tape as a tactile contact point. The wide integrated barricade stop, QD mounts on fore-end and stock, and the adjustable, ambidextrous magazine lever also belong to the design. If you’re only looking for simple hunting stock ergonomics, you’ll hardly use these functions and should honestly weigh the weight and scope of this system against your own needs.

Tips for use
Trainer tip: First adjust stock, cheek rest, and grip to the natural left-hand position. Only then work with rests and weights. This way you separate fit from balance and see whether a weight really changes the neutral point or just e
an inappropriate stop.

Practical Tip 1: Don’t “tighten” the magazine lock by feel. MDT describes the adjustment as follows: Insert the magazine, choose the height above the lower screw so that it locks in and retains slight play up/down; then secure the front screw with 10 in-lb. The function check belongs on an unloaded system and with exactly the intended AICS magazine.

Practical Tip 2: The six supplied plastic dowels are an option against lateral magazine play in the magwell. Use them only after the basic function of the chosen magazine and adjust only as much as necessary for smooth guidance. This keeps the boundary between play-free and stiff controllable.

Practical Tip 3: For mounting, MDT specifies a 3/16-inch Allen key and 60 to 65 in-lb for the action screws on Remington 700 SA. The order matters: tighten the front screw first, then the rear screw. This is no substitute for the assembly instructions; they belong directly at the workplace during installation.

Buy if / Don’t buy if
Buy if you plan a left-handed Remington 700 Short Action build with Short Action AICS magazine and want to consciously use the combination of ARCA rail, M-LOK expandability, and adjustable stock and grip.
Don’t buy if you want a right-handed action, Remington 700 Long Action, a lightweight hunting rifle, or a complete rifle including barrel/system unit and magazine. These limits are no small matter but decide on fit, magazine standard, and usefulness of the entire build.

FAQ
Does this chassis fit every Remington 700? No. This version is intended for a left-handed Remington 700 Short Action. Right-handed and Long Action systems require the respective matching version.
Which magazine is needed? A Short Action AICS magazine is intended. A magazine is not part of the MDT listed scope of delivery.
Is the stock already included? Yes. MDT names the SRS-X Elite Buttstock and the Elite Vertical Grip with Connector Bar as system components.
How large may the barrel diameter be? MDT specifies a maximum of 1.350 inch. Check this specification against the actual barrel profile before assembly.
With what torque are the action screws mounted? For Remington 700 SA, the current MDT instructions specify 60 to 65 in-lb with 3/16-inch Allen key; tighten front first, then rear.
Can I later add balance or buttstock accessories? Yes, if the interface fits: The chassis has ARCA on the fore-end and M-LOK mounts. For targeted additions, the ACC internal weight and the M-LOK Bag Rider are available in the shop.
