This creates significantly more freedom for accessories but also increases width, weight, and complexity on the fore-end.

A quad rail makes sense when accessory positions are planned deliberately: for example, light, grip, or other Picatinny components. If you want to keep the Mini-14 deliberately slim and light, additional rails offer little benefit.
