UTG PRO MTU006SSM – slim 13-inch free float handguard For a cleanly planned AR15 build, the MTU006SSM combines a slim aluminium body with seven M-LOK slots and a continuous Picatinny top rail. The crucial point is the fit: standard Mil-Spec AR15 upper, gas system, barrel contour, and clearance must all match before purchase.

Our honest assessment

The MTU006SSM makes sense if you want a long, slim grip area and flexible accessory positions. Free float reduces direct pressure impact on the barrel via the handguard but is neither a precision guarantee nor a substitute for proper installation.
This model is a discontinued item. This does not affect the function of existing stock but may make later procurement of identical spare or complementary parts more difficult.



Fits well if … … your build uses a standard Mil-Spec AR15 upper with a standard gas tube and you have deliberately chosen a 13-inch handguard length.
… you want M-LOK all around and a continuous upper Picatinny rail.


Less suitable if … … you use a piston system, AR10/LR-308, or a non-standard upper geometry.
… you expect a simple drop-in swap without work on barrel nut and gas block.

42 M-LOK slots Seven usable surfaces provide room for light, sling attachment, hand stop, or rest accessories without having to carry unnecessary rail segments all around.


31-slot Picatinny on top The continuous top rail makes clear sight and accessory planning easier. A scope should still preferably
fully mounted on the upper.


Slim profile 38.8 mm width and 50.4 mm height create a close-to-body grip area. Less volume also means less thermal distance to the barrel.

Limits, disadvantages, and avoiding bad purchases

No universal handguard: The model approval refers to standard AR15 geometry; piston systems and different uppers are not automatically compatible.
Installation effort: Barrel nut and the area around the gas block/gas tube must be correctly processed. If unsure, the conversion should be done by a professional.
Choose 13 inches consciously: Before purchase, check where the gas block and muzzle component end and whether access, heat dissipation, and balance remain sensible.
