Understanding height correctly
The height describes, for many Recknagel mounts, the distance from the mounting base to the underside of the scope main tube. It’s not automatically the optical center.


Very low height: close to the barrel axis, good cheek weld, but little clearance for large objectives.

Medium height: usually sensible for classic hunting scopes with 50–56 mm objective.

High height: sensible for large objectives, thick barrels, or when additional attachments/accessories need clearance.

As a rule of thumb: as low as possible, as high as necessary. The decisive factor is always the actual outer diameter of the objective, not just the nominal size.

Practical guide: which height for what?


H 6–10.5 mm: very low PSG/Pica variants for small objectives or flat sport setups.

H 12–15.5 mm: often sensible for 50 mm optics and many classic hunting scopes.

H 17–19 mm: often practical for larger 56 mm scopes or more clearance.

H 22–26 mm: special and clearance solutions for large objectives, special barrel contours, or accessories.

These are practical values, no guarantee. The decisive factor is the actual outer diameter of your objective plus safety clearance.

Trainer tip: Test cheek weld before scope mounting
Hold the firearm with closed eyes in the shooting position and then open your eyes. If you automatically find yourself behind the scope, the height fits better. If you have to lift or press your head, the mounting height is probably not optimal.

Trainer tip: Don’t guess point of impact
After every mounting change, a control shot at the range is necessary. Even high-quality mounts only work repeatably if they sit cleanly, always engage in the same position, and the clamp is correctly adjusted.
Mark the used Picatinny slot for interchangeable mounts. This reduces user errors and helps you find your defined position faster.

What is the difference to the lever version?
This version works with nut clamping and is rather intended for fixed installations. The lever version is better if you want to frequently remove the optic.
