GRAYL · GeoPress · Replacement Cartridge
405-PC: the right cartridge for GeoPress – not for UltraPress The SKUs 405-PC-BK and 405-PC-OR clearly belong to the GRAYL GeoPress Purifier Cartridge. Black and Orange distinguish the colour; the filter roll remains the same.
For a GeoPress in travel, outdoor, or emergency setup, the cartridge is the actual consumable part. When the pressing process becomes noticeably slower or the capacity limit is reached, the cartridge is replaced – not the entire bottle.
Fits well if … … you use a GRAYL GeoPress and want to replace a used cartridge or carry a spare.
Less suitable if … … you own an UltraPress. UltraPress and GeoPress use different cartridges; the 405-PC designation is GeoPress.
Variant selection
Black: SKU 405-PC-BK
Orange: SKU 405-PC-OR
The colour choice does not change the stated purification performance. Both variants listed here are GeoPress cartridges without an additionally specified drink-mix valve.
What it practically does
Up to about 350 cycles / 250 litres GRAYL specifies up to 350 press cycles or around 250 litres. Highly sediment- or tannin-rich water can shorten the lifespan.
Press time as condition indicator Press time increases with loading. GRAYL states about 25–30 seconds as the replacement indicator.
Electro-adsorption + activated carbon The system reduces waterborne pathogens and particles; activated carbon additionally binds many taste, odour, and chemical contaminants.
Spare s
tatt complete system If you regularly use the GeoPress or carry it as emergency gear, you can extend readiness with a dry spare cartridge without buying a second bottle.
Limits, disadvantages and avoiding bad purchases
No desalination: The cartridge does not turn salt or brackish water into drinking water. For clearly problematic industrial, chemical, or algae contamination, another water source is the better choice.
Pre-filtering pays off: Very turbid water stresses the cartridge faster. Remove coarse sediments beforehand if possible.
Not an UltraPress replacement: This exact mistake was in the old shop data; the 405-PC SKUs are officially assigned to GeoPress.
Technical data with practical interpretation
Compatibility GRAYL GeoPress. Check the bottle type before ordering; the similarly sounding UltraPress name is not proof of compatibility.
Capacity Up to approx. 350 cycles / 250 l under suitable conditions. Water quality and sediment amount affect actual lifespan.
Technology Electro-adsorption and ultra-finely distributed activated carbon. This combines microbiological treatment with particle/taste/odour reduction.
Storage Store unused cartridge dry, clean, and airtight. GRAYL states up to 10 years shelf life under correct conditions.
Scope of delivery
1 × GRAYL GeoPress Purifier Cartridge in the chosen colour Black or Orange. A one-way drink-mix valve is not separately listed for the 405-PC-BK / 405-PC-OR variants offered here.
Safe use
Clean assembly Loosen old cartridge, insert new one into Inner Press and lock until securely clicked. Check firm fit before use.
Assess source Even a purifier does not replace source selection. If a source is chemically or industrially suspicious, don’t rely on a portable cartridge system to handle every contamination.
FAQ
Does 405-PC-BK fit in the UltraPress? No. 405-PC-BK is officially the black GeoPress replacement cartridge. The same applies to 405-PC-OR in Orange. When should I change? At the latest when the stated lifespan is reached or the pressing time rises towards 25–30 seconds. Highly sediment-laden water may require earlier replacement. Can I treat seawater? No. The cartridge does not desalinate sea or brackish water. Are Black and Orange technically different? In the 405-PC variants offered here, colour is the difference; both are GeoPress purifier cartridges.
Black Raptor · right cartridge first
With GRAYL, system assignment is decisive above all: 405-PC-BK and 405-PC-OR belong to GeoPress. If you own an UltraPress, you need the other cartridge family intended for it.
