Black-Raptor Product Check · Thermal Imaging + LRF
HIKMICRO Condor CQ50L 2.0
For field areas and long-range observation, when high thermal detail reserve and an integrated rangefinder are more important than the smallest pack size.
The 640×512 sensor meets a 50 mm F0.9, 2.7x base magnification, and a laser rangefinder up to 1,000 m. This doesn’t make the CQ50L 2.0 the universally best thermal imager – but it is a very coherent choice for open areas and structured distance observation. Quick check: What is the real added value here?
640×512 <15 mK
The combination of high sensor resolution and low NETD helps especially with weak temperature contrasts, humid weather, and detailed backgrounds.
50 mm F0.9
The long, bright optic prioritizes range and detail at distance. For this, the field of view is narrower than with 35 mm devices.
LRF up to 1,000 m
Distance is not estimated but measured. The manufacturer states ±1 m accuracy and 10 m minimum measuring distance.
21700 Replaceable Battery
A replaceable battery is more practical on longer sits than a fixed power system; HIKMICRO states at least 6.5 h under defined test conditions.

Important: The stated detection range is not a guaranteed detection or identification range. A warm spot can be detected significantly earlier than species, size, direction, or environment can be reliably assessed.
Why 50 mm is not automatically better than 35 mm
With 50 mm the base magnification increases un
and the device displays distant heat sources larger on the screen. That’s exactly what’s attractive in the field. In dense forest or when quickly scanning short distances, a wider 35 mm field of view can be more comfortable. If you often check paths, clearings, and baiting areas at short range, you shouldn’t buy based solely on maximum range.
As a direct alternative in the same manufacturer lineup, the Falcon FQ35 2.0 is more focused on overview. The Falcon FQ50 2.0 shares the 50 mm/640 base concept but forgoes the integrated LRF.
Purchase decision
Buy if …
You mostly observe open areas, want to measure distances directly, and value high detail reserve at low thermal contrast more than minimal weight.
Not the first choice if …
You mainly scan short forest paths and tight hunting areas, seek maximum overview, or prefer a significantly lighter handheld device.
Practical tip: Evaluate thermal imaging devices first at base magnification. Digital zoom enlarges the existing sensor signal—it does not create additional optical detail information. For consistently good orientation, a native field of view matching the hunting area structure is usually more important than the highest zoom number.
Operation, power, and data
HIKMICRO lists six color palettes, video and photo recording, 2.4/5 GHz WLAN, and 64 GB internal storage. The 21700 battery is replaceable and chargeable directly in the device. The manufacturer’s runtime of at least 6.5 hours applies at 25 °C with WLAN, Zoom Pro, and LRF activated; cold, display brightness, and usage profile can affect actual runtime.
FAQ
Is the Condor CQ50L 2.0 a 640 thermal imaging device? Yes. HIKMICRO specifies a 640×512 VOx sensor with 12 µm pixel pitch and 50 Hz.
How far does the laser rangefinder measure? The manufacturer states up to 1,000 m range, ±1 m accuracy, and 10 m minimum measuring distance.
Is 2,600 m the identification range? No. That is the manufacturer’s detection range under standard conditions. Reliable detail assessment takes place significantly closer depending on target size, weather, background, and contrast.
Condor CQ50L 2.0 or Falcon FQ50 2.0? Both use 640×512 and 50 mm. The key purchase difference here is the integrated LRF of the Condor; the Falcon remains the alternative if distance measurement is not needed.
Is the device waterproof? HIKMICRO specifies IP67 protection. That is robust weather protection but does not replace careful maintenance, dry storage, and protection of optical surfaces.
