The reticle is set far out, the hold is steady – now adjustment, parallax, and reticle have to match.
The Paragon SCOL-T44 combines a tactical MIL reticle with 0.1-MIL clicks, zero stop, and 4–20x magnification. This creates a coherent working optic for controlled distance training and precise applications, but due to the second focal plane, it requires conscious handling of the hold marks.

Our honest assessment

The SCOL-T44 is not a lightweight all-round scope for every purpose. Its strength lies in reproducible corrections: MIL reticle and MIL turrets speak the same language, the zero stop makes returning to zero easier, and the side focus supports clean work at varying distances.
The limits are just as clear: 4× is relatively tight for very short, dynamic distances, 20× shows more detail but makes heat shimmer, hold errors, and the small field of view more noticeable. At 765 g plus mount, the scope also noticeably affects the balance of a light firearm.

Works well if …
You work on the range or hunting from stable positions, prefer corrections in MIL, and zero s
top as well as turret lock actually uses.
You are looking for a 1-inch optic with 4–20×, 50 mm objective and parallax adjustment from 10 yd.


Rather not suitable if …
You need a fast scope for driven hunting, short dynamic stages, or consistent shooting with both eyes open.
You want to use holdover marks at every magnification without conversion – an FFP model would be the more suitable design for that.

What the features do in practice


4–20× and 50 mm objective
At 4× the field of view at 100 m is still usable at 9.3 m; at 20× it drops to 1.9 m. The exit pupil decreases from 10 to 2.5 mm. High magnification brings detail but no automatically brighter or steadier sight picture.


SFP instead of FFP
The VEPG-TMIL reticle remains optically the same size while the sight picture changes. Its MIL holdover marks are therefore only accurate at the reference magnification specified in the manual. Check this setting before use and confirm at the range.


0.1 MIL, Zero Stop and turret lock
One click shifts the point of impact by 1 cm at 100 m. The Zero Stop helps to return to zero after elevation adjustments; the lock reduces unintended adjustments. Neither replaces documented zero verification.


Side focus from 10 yd
The parallax adjustment is valuable for changing distances. Properly set, it reduces point-of-impact errors caused by off-center eye position – a consistent cheek weld remains crucial.


1-inch tube and 17.5 MIL adjustment range
The slim 25.4 mm tube keeps the system compact. The adjustment range is sufficient for many setups but limited: with strongly angled mounts or large distance corrections, the mechanical reserve must be checked beforehand.


IP67, nitrogen filling and 750 G
The manufacturer states protection against water, internal fogging, and a shock test up to 750 G. These are manufacturer test values, not an independent Black-Raptor endurance test – mounting and zeroing must be checked after heavy stress.

Instructor and user tips

Mounting before zeroing: Align rings without tension, tighten screws evenly and only according to the torque specifications of the mount and firearm manufacturer. A tilted reticle quickly causes horizontal error at distance.
Diopter first: Focus the reticle against a neutral background, then adjust the sight picture and parallax. Staring too long makes the eye seemingly compensate for blur.
Set Zero Stop only after confirmed zero: Shoot several clean groups, document zero position, set stop according to instructions, and then verify return with a control group.
Train SFP consciously: If you use holdover marks outside the reference magnification, you need reliable conversions. For training and competition, it is usually safer to define a fixed working magnification and verify values on the real setup.

Which Paragon variant fits better?


SCOL-T44: corrections in MIL
4–20×50, SFP, VEPG-TMIL, 0.1 MIL clicks, Zero Stop, 765 g. The coherent choice if you actively use turrets and holdover marks for distance corrections.


SCOM-T37: somewhat wider and lighter
3–15×44, also SFP and MIL with Zero Stop. With 12.4 m field of view at 100 m at 3× and 710 g it is more agile but offers less top magnification.


SCOL-44: simpler for hunting
Same zoom range and 50 mm objective, but German #4 reticle, 1/4 MOA adjustment and protected turrets. At 690 g it is lighter and better suited if you rarely adjust turrets.

Mounting, safety and care

Perform mounting work only on a fully unloaded, secured firearm and in a safe environment. Before use, check objective clearance, eye relief, screw tightness, and operability. After mounting, transport shock, or disassembly, a control group check is mandatory.
First remove particles from lenses with a blower or soft brush, then clean sparingly with suitable optical cleaning material. Do not rub dry dirt particles over the coating. For longer storage, remove the battery and store the glass dry, unloaded, and not in a permanently damp pouch.

FAQ
Is the SCOL-T44 an FFP scope? No. The manufacturer explicitly designates it as an SFP model. The reticle remains optically the same size; its holdover marks are only accurate at the intended reference magnification.
Do reticle and click adjustment match? Yes. VEPG-TMIL reticle and 0.1 MIL clicks use the same angular system. This simplifies corrections, provided the SFP reference magnification and actual impact values are considered.
Is 20× always the most precise setting? No. High magnification narrows the field of view, reduces the exit pupil, and makes heat shimmer and movement more visible. The best working magnification is the lowest at which target and reticle can still be clearly assessed.
Can I always use the supplied rings? They fit Weaver/Picatinny interfaces and the 25.4 mm tube. The required height and mechanical quality for your specific setup must still be checked.
What does the Zero Stop do? It forms a mechanical stop at the confirmed zero position. This makes it easier to dial back after elevation corrections. If set incorrectly or unchecked by a control group, it can be an aid but not a guarantee.
Is the glass suitable for low light? The 50 mm objective and multi-coating support a usable image. At 20× the exit pupil is only 2.5 mm; for low light, a lower magnification is often more sensible.
