Paragon SCOL-44 · SFP · ¼ MOA
When it counts, a steady image – not a cluttered reticle
You’re sitting at the edge of the field, the light is fading, and the target isn’t standing broad forever. The Paragon 4–20×50 combines a wide magnification range with a clean German #4 reticle, side focus, and protected hunting turrets. It’s designed for controlled shots and precise aiming – not constant tactical dialing.
Check if the SCOL-44 fits your setup

Our honest assessment

The SCOL-44 is the hunting version: German #4 in the second focal plane, six brightness levels for the center point, capped ¼-MOA adjustment, and a 25.4 mm tube. After zeroing, the caps stay on the turrets to protect the settings.
Important to avoid bad purchases: The similarly named SCOL-T44 uses a MIL reticle, open tactical turrets, and zero stop. These features are not part of the SCOL-44. If you regularly adjust in MIL or frequently dial elevation, you need the T44 variant or another suitable system.

Fits well – or not so much?

Fits well if … you want a classic steady hunting reticle, 4–20× for precise observation and shots from a stable position, plus side parallax correction.

Doesn’t fit so well if … you expect an FFP reticle, MIL/MRAD, zero stop, fast dynamic target changes at 1×, or maximum low-light performance of a premium optic.

What the features mean in practice

4–20× magnification 4× still gives overview
for stand hunting; 20× shows fine details at a distance. High magnification reduces the field of view and exit pupil – so don’t automatically zoom all the way in.

German #4 in SFP The thick outer bars quickly guide the eye to the fine center. Because the reticle is in the second focal plane, its visible size remains the same when zooming; reticle dimensions apply only at the magnification specified in the manual.

Side focus from 10 yd Image sharpness and parallax can be adjusted to the target distance. The scale is a guide, not a rangefinder: the key is a clean adjustment with a steady sight picture.

Capped ¼-MOA turrets One click shifts the point of impact by about 7.3 mm at 100 m. 100 clicks equal 25 MOA per revolution; elevation and windage ranges are each 60 MOA.

Mounting and user instructions

Before mounting: Unload the firearm, ensure it is safe, and check if the included 25.4 mm Weaver rings fit your rail, height, and 50 mm objective. The rings must not stress the tube; tighten screws according to the respective mount manufacturer’s specifications.
Before zeroing: Determine eye relief in your actual shooting position, align the reticle vertically, adjust diopter for the reticle, and only then adjust side focus and point of impact. After mounting work and hard impacts, a verification group is part of responsible handling.
Common mistake: Turning the side focus knob only according to the printed distance. Adjust it so that the target image and reticle move as little as possible relative to each other with small head movements.

Scope of delivery
Paragon SCOL-44, one pair of 25.4 mm Weaver rings, objective and eyepiece caps, cleaning cloth, and manual. Whether the included rings provide the correct height for your system must be checked before mounting.

Suitable alternatives in the shop

For MIL and frequent dialing The Paragon SCOL-T44 4–20×50 Tactical is the matching sister platform with MIL reticle, tactical adjustment, and zero stop. Don’t confuse: weight and operation logic differ.

More compact and less magnification The Hugo 4–16×44 SFP is an alternative if 16× is enough and a 44 mm objective fits your setup better. More options are available under hunting optics and sport optics.

FAQ
Does the SCOL-44 have a MIL or MOA system? MOA. The turrets adjust in ¼ MOA, the German #4 reticle is documented as an MOA reticle. MIL and zero stop belong to the SCOL-T44.
Is the reticle in the first or second focal plane? In the second focal plane (SFP). It remains optically the same size when zooming; for measuring or holdover values, the magnification specified in the reticle manual must be observed.
Are the included mounting rings always sufficient? No. They generally fit a 25.4 mm tube and a Weaver/Picatinny mount, but height, rail, bolt clearance, and eye relief must fit your firearm.
Is 20× useful for every shot? No. 20× helps with small targets and stable rest but reduces field of view and exit pupil. Often entst
eht bei etwas weniger Vergrößerung das ruhigere und schnellere Zielbild.
What lights up on the German #4? The center is illuminated in red and can be adjusted in six levels. The illumination supports perception but does not replace correct diopter and parallax adjustment.
