Rokstad · SCOT-12 · Shooting Stick
When there’s no room for a big tripod for your next steady rest
At the edge of the field or on the range, it’s often not about maximum gear but an additional, quickly set contact point. The Vector Optics SCOT-12 folds out from 45 cm packed length to 1 m operating height and relieves the rest without being mounted on the rifle.
The honest core: 260 g is pleasantly mobile. As a monopod rest, the SCOT-12 mainly takes away vertical movement and holding effort – you still have to control lateral stability with position, grip, and body.
Check if 1 m fits your rest
Our honest assessment
A lightweight shooting stick – not a free-standing rifle tripod
The SCOT-12 consists of 6061-T6 aluminum segments with internal elastic cord, a rest/grip part made of ABS, and a steel foot. When opened, the segments quickly align; the manufacturer does not mention telescopic height adjustment.
Its strength lies in mobile, mostly kneeling or seated rests. Those who want to set down a firearm, finely adjust height, or largely eliminate lateral movement from the system
wants, needs a different design.
Fits well if …
You’re looking for a very lightweight support not attached to the firearm for hunting, stalking, or range use, and 1 m height suits your preferred position.
Doesn’t fit well if …
You want to work standing, vary the height, rest the rifle freestanding, or achieve the lateral stability of a bi- or tripod.
Usage advice
What the design means in practice
1 m fixed height: This is the crucial fit value. Measure at home in your real kneeling and sitting position the height to the planned support point on the fore-end. Body size, slope, and clothing affect whether the stock rests relaxed or is too high or too low.
One point on the ground: The stock carries part of the holding work and can reduce vertical sway. However, the system can tilt and swivel around this one foot. A clean shoulder position and controlled trigger remain more important than extra pressure on the support.
45 cm folded length and elastic cord: The connected segments won’t get lost individually on the go and can be quickly assembled. Each plug connection must be fully seated before use; half-assembled segments can jam or get damaged.
Steel foot: It’s designed for solid ground contact. On smooth or sensitive hard surfaces, the manufacturer’s described rubber cap and slip guarantee are missing – place it especially carefully there and never load the support unattended.
Trainer tip: Position first
Set up knee, sitting, and shoulder position first without the stock. Then place it so it supports without pushing you out of the natural aiming point. More pressure doesn’t automatically mean more stability.
User tip: measure before use
The dealer’s “height adjustable” claim is not reliable for the exact model. Vector Optics states only 1 m open and 45 cm folded. Buy according to measured shooting height, not an assumed adjustment.
Choose support point consciously
Rest the fore-end in a controlled way, not the barrel. Hold the firearm yourself and always maintain safe muzzle direction and trigger discipline.
Respect limits
Vector Optics does not publish maximum load, shock resistance, or weather rating for the SCOT-12. Use it as a shooting support, not as a walking stick, lever, or seat aid.
Sensible comparison
SCOT-12, bipod, or weapon-mounted support?
SCOT-12: 260 g net, 45 cm folded, 1 m open and not mounted on the firearm. The right choice when low weight and quick repositioning matter more than maximum lateral stability.
Rokstad RSGR-05 V-Mount Bipod: 65 to 120 cm height adjustable, two ground points, 500 g and rated by the manufacturer up to 15 kg load. It’s heavier and bulkier but offers more lateral guidance and adapts better to position.
Rokstad SCBPW-01 Bipod: a compact, firearm-mounted alternative with 220 g and 155 mm folded length. That’s a different task: low, firearm-close support instead of a mobile 1-m field rest.

Safety, setup and care
The stock supports – the weapon control stays with you
Open the stock carefully and check by visual and pull inspection whether all segments are fully connected. Place the foot only on a load-bearing, non-slip surface. Do not leave the weapon unattended and never use the rest as a substitute for safe muzzle direction, trigger discipline, or the rules of the respective range.
Let it dry completely after moisture. Remove sand and soil from plug connections and steel foot before folding the stock. Regularly check elastic cord, tube ends, rest and foot for abrasion, cracks or deformation; do not continue to load if damaged.
FAQ
Real questions before buying
Is the SCOT-12 height adjustable? According to reliable manufacturer information, no. 1 m open and 45 cm folded are specified. A dealer source calls it adjustable but does not describe a mechanism; we do not adopt this information.
Can I shoot standing with it? That depends on body height, terrain and rest point. For most adults, 1 m is more interesting for kneeling or sitting positions. Measure your required height beforehand.
Does the stock stand on its own? No. It is a monopod rest, not a free-standing tripod. Weapon and stock must be held under control during use.
How much weight can I rest on it? Vector Optics does not publish a maximum load for the SCOT-12. It is intended as a supportive shooting rest, not for supporting body weight.
Is a bipod generally better? Not generally, but different. Two feet provide more lateral guidance; the SCOT-12 is lighter, faster to reposition and requires no weapon mounting.

Honestly advised by trainers and users for users
A good rest is one that fits the hold, terrain and actual transport route. For the SCOT-12, that means: very mobile, quickly set and honestly limited to a fixed, non-free-standing rest point.
