Small protective layer · clear fit
The hit should strike the target – not your Red Dot
A BB comes from the front, the dot remains visible: The Vector Optics SCOT‑59 places a replaceable acrylic lens in front of the objective side of a compatible closed Red Dot. This is a simple sacrificial part solution for Airsoft and Paintball – provided the outer objective tube really measures 29.0 to 29.3 mm.
First measure the outer diameter at the actual mounting area. Then decide if this tight fit suits your sight.
Check fit and limits

Our honest assessment

SCOT‑59 is not a universal protector nor a ballistically certified protective lens. It is a lightweight, directly mounted accessory for compatible tube-shaped Red Dots. The manufacturer names Airsoft as the application; the German brand distributor adds Paintball.
Its advantage lies in the clear sacrificial part logic: A separate acrylic surface stands in front of the actual objective lens. Its limit is just as clear: Wrong diameter means loose or strained fit. Tape does not replace a confirmed fit.

Fits well if …
your closed Red Dot measures 29.0 to 29.3 mm on the outer front straight mounting area and you want to shield the front lens against typical BB or Paintball hits.

Fits rather not if …
you have an open mini Red Dot, a different outer diameter, a rubber protective cover of the Maverick series, or a certified protection against live ammunition and fragments br
auchst.

What the features do in practice

29.0–29.3 mm instead of “about 29”
The outer diameter of the objective tube is measured, not the clear glass opening and not a number in the model name. The tight tolerance is the most important buying point.

Two O-rings hold the mount
The rubber rings are inserted inside, then the protector is pushed onto the objective tube. They only compensate for the intended fit – no significantly wrong size.

Acrylic in front of the actual lens
The front plate takes the first contact. It is a wear part: cracks, chips or permanent vision disturbances are a reason to replace it.

7 g additional weight
The aluminum frame remains light. More important than the weight is that the ring sits straight and does not unexpectedly cut off the field of view in the usual shooting positions.

Trainer and user tips

Before mounting: Measure the actual mounting area outside with calipers. If in doubt, do not push on with force; a stressed ring can sit crooked or impair vision.
After mounting: Check the dot and field of view from all usual positions. Then check the protector by hand for a firm fit without twisting the optic.
From clearly attributable user reports: Users report both multiple intercepted hits without noticeable dot distortion and loose fit with a not exactly fitting tube. That’s exactly why measuring is more important than improvised padding with tape.

SCOT‑59 or SCOT‑59II?

SCOT‑59
Tight manufacturer approval for 29.0–29.3 mm, 29.5 mm inner diameter, 10.5 mm length and 7 g. Officially fits Maverick SCRD‑12/SCRD‑12II and Harpy SCRD‑30.

SCOT‑59II
The adjustable alternative covers 28–30 mm according to the manufacturer, is 8 mm long and weighs 4.5 g. It makes sense if you need more size reserve. View SCOT‑59II .

A suitable red dot explicitly named by the manufacturer is the Vector Optics SCRD‑12II Maverick‑II . Other suitable areas: Airsoft optics and Vector Optics .

Mounting, safety and care

Mounting Insert both O-rings correctly inside and push the cap straight onto the matching objective tube. Do not tilt, do not mount with force and do not “make fit” the wrong size with tape.

Safety The protective plate does not replace suitable safety glasses, mask, field rules or safe handling. Stop use and replace the part if cracked, chipped or loose.

Care First blow off dust or loosen with a soft brush. Then clean the acrylic surface only with a clean, soft cloth; abrasive agents can scratch the viewing surface.

FAQ
Where do I have to measure the 29.0–29.3 mm? On the outside of the round, straight objective tube, where the protective cap is pushed on. Not at the free glass opening and not at any other part of the housing.
Does SCOT‑59 fit on SCRD‑12II and SCRD‑12? Yes. Vector Optics explicitly names SCRD‑12 and SCRD‑12II; the current manufacturer page also lists Harpy SCRD‑30.
Does the cap fit under the Maverick rubber cover? No. Vector Optics points out that this cap is not combined with the mentioned Maverick rubber covers SCRD‑38/39/41/42.
Is the lens bulletproof? The manufacturer does not publish a ballistic protection class. Protection is advertised for airsoft applications; the German brand distributor additionally mentions paintball. No further conclusions should be drawn from this.
What if the cap fits loosely? Then the actual fit is probably incorrect or the O-rings are not properly installed. Do not improvise with tape, but check the dimensions and mounting and, if necessary, compare with SCOT‑59II.
Can the acrylic lens be replaced? The scope of delivery includes a complete protective lens, no separate replacement lens. In case of visible damage, the entire unit must be replaced as a wear part.
