On the vehicle, in camp, or during low-light care, you constantly switch between overview and detail. The NEXTORCH iStar combines a steplessly adjustable spot, broad white light, red light, and a SunLike LED with a CRI over 95 – making cables, gear, and surfaces appear more natural than under many cold white high-performance lamps.
Its focus is controlled work light, not maximum search range. If 450 lumens, 80 meters, and a fixed integrated USB-C battery fit your routine, it’s a pleasantly compact headlamp.

Our honest assessment
The iStar is especially strong when you need both hands free and want to reliably distinguish colors. The high color rendering index is practical for repair, inspection, first aid preparation, and camp work. However, it does not make the lamp a calibrated or medically certified inspection light.
The flip switch is more than a cover: when flipped open, it activates the spot and adjusts its brightness depending on the opening angle. Additionally, separate flood and red light are available. This is a quick operating logic, but not a classic zoom focus with a movable lens.

Fits well if … you’re looking for more natural color rendering, a steplessly adjustable spot, broad near light, and red light in a lightweight USB-C headlamp.


Fits less if … you want replaceable spare batteries, several hundred meters of range, submersion protection, or a certified un
inspection light required.

Light modes and their practical effect


Spot: up to 450 lumens For path, orientation, and targeted inspection up to about 80 meters. The maximum runtime of 21 hours applies to the low spot level, not to 450 lumens.


Floodlight: up to 105 lumens Wider and steadier for map, workbench, tent, or immediate work area. Always start low on reflective surfaces.


Red light: up to 14 lumens Less self-glare at close range and additional blinking mode. How well dark adaptation is maintained also depends on brightness, duration, and environment.


SunLike, CRI >95 Colors appear closer to a reference lighting. This helps distinguish material and skin tones but does not replace a second light source or expert assessment in critical decisions.

Trainer and user tip
Practice switching modes before use: Spot via the flip switch, flood and red light via the button. Always start with low light at close range. Too much white light blinds you on maps, vehicle paint, and bright walls—and often reveals more position than necessary.

Dimensions and weight 67 × 39 × 32 mm, about 70 g. The international site misleadingly states the weight as “without battery,” although the battery is integrated; NEXTORCH Germany states 70 g with battery.


Runtime Up to 21 h in low spot mode and up to 25 h in red blinking mode according to current international product specification. Temperature and selected brightness affect practical runtime.

Transparently resolved: two official data sets
The current international NEXTORCH page states 450 lumens and 80 meters. NEXTORCH Germany still lists 420 lumens and 75 meters for the same model designation and EAN, as well as differing individual levels. We use the current international data for the main specs but deliberately mark the regional conflict and therefore do not provide a full QS score.

Scope of delivery
According to NEXTORCH Germany: iStar headlamp with integrated battery, headband, USB-C charging cable, and German-language manual. The international product page currently does not offer a separate manual for download.

Care, charging, and safety

Charging: Keep USB-C port dry and clean; fully charge before longer use. Since the battery is fixed, a power bank or second lamp should be part of your backup plan.
Operation: Do not force the flip mechanism and keep it free of sand or mud. Avoid direct eye contact with the LED and do not blind others.
Moisture: IPX4 means splash protection. Dry after rain, only open or use the charging port when completely dry, and do not submerge the lamp.
Battery: Do not continue charging or using if unusually warm, swollen, or if the housing is damaged.

Which alternative fits better?
If a fixed helmet/NVG mount is more important than high color rendering, check out the active NEXTORCH oStar.
